Re: Schumacher = Stig

It is better to be consumed by rage and keep a good idea of what was actually funny, than to not.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

Avo utterly fails because no one would find it offensive if someone else claimed not to like fried chicken.

The Yell utterly fails because he has failed to realise that he is not the ultimate arbitrator of what is or isn't funny, and that just because he doesn't find it funny, it doesn't mean no one does. The Yell doesn't watch Top Gear, doesn't find it funny and doesn't really seem to know what it is. So why are you posting in this thread?

So, the identity of the Stig anyone?

Re: Schumacher = Stig

"Thanks for the explanation, but I knew all of that"

then why do you insist that it would only be offensive to people who are close minded half wits?

Re: Schumacher = Stig

"Avo utterly fails because no one would find it offensive if someone else claimed not to like fried chicken."

and no one find it offensive that there are people that are gay, or that there are people that are liberal, ect.

'cause only those kind of people couldn't take a joke, find it offensive and would rather bash heads than have a laugh back at/at the expense of the people who are providing the "insult". If you are particualrly tender about delicious fried chicken and the stereotype that you like it because you are from Alabama or black, resorting to violence is hardly the best course of action, and I think God would agree with that.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

"'cause only those kind of people couldn't take a joke"

the joke is just repeating a stereotype and calling it funny, because you disagree with it; thats a pretty pathetic excuse for a joke; and no, people that dont find its funny to repeat a tired stereotype are not close-minded.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

What you are saying would be true if they were at a stand up comedy club saying "black people and people from Alabama like fried chicken". But they weren't doing that.

I don't know how many people watching it laughed, but I'm sure a lot did, so the joke worked and your opinion on it is irrelevant.

I'm curious. Do you think the reaction of the locals was appropriate (throwing rocks, threatening violence etc), considering your god does not condone violence (unless it's in his name)?

[Now I'm gone, again. I never can quite manage to ignore the thread on the first try after saying that (I deleted that line from my previous post so it didn't look like I was going back on my words tongue)]

yes, there was a joke in the show, i agree, but there was nothing for the people to laugh at that were in Alabama, they didnt see what was gonna happen in the show.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

cool, but IMHO the spray painting, stupid cars, the scared englishmen and tv cameras would have given it away.

stupid cars? wtf are you talking about?! tongue

and so you see a camera, and foreigners that are acting strange, and you would start cracking up?

If you don't know which stupid cars I am refering to, you obviously have no idea what the conversation is about! tongue

Since the joke was on me and my neighbours, I'd have a smile and a chuckle and tell them a joke about englishmen.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

you would laugh at something you dont understand? i guess idiots are used to that.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

they had nice cars!

Re: Schumacher = Stig

and that show is so lame, the limited amount of time i watched it, the guy basically gave the same review of every car that he rode for a long time. at first he was skeptical and didnt like so many things about the car, but as he nears the end of his journey he grows a fondness for the car and a respect for where it came from.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

ok, ok, ok I'll admit it... I am the Stig. Are you all happy now?

No one should find that offensive, but the retards who chased them off by throwing stones clearly did. Otherwise, why did they chase them off?

Re: Schumacher = Stig

if the rednecks caught them and played soccer with their pickup trucks using the cast and crew as balls, would that have been funny?

Re: Schumacher = Stig

"No one should find that offensive, but the retards who chased them off by throwing stones clearly did. Otherwise, why did they chase them off?"

for the same reason people in a predominantly black community would chase off if not injure someone who wrote friend chicken sucks on their car and drove around the black community; i already explained why; you can read, right?

Re: Schumacher = Stig

I disagree that the black community would drive off someone who wrote fried chicken sucks on their car. But even if they did, that would be equally unreasonable and probably be equally funny. So what is your point?

The Yell, no I don't think it would have been funny because I don't really find watching people being murdered to be funny. The unreasonable over reaction was funny, how retarded the locals were was funny. If someone had actually of been seriously hurt it would no longer be funny.

Why are you trying to defend these people? It makes no sense. Just cut your losses. You two just aren't making any sense, meaningless analogies and a confused standpoint. What are you trying to say? That the locals were right to chase them off with stones and threats of violence? Or that it just wasn't funny?

If the former then you must first show that the messages written on the sides of the cars were actually offensive to any reasonable person. And you must then show that they were strong enough messages to justify violence. You haven't done either of these things.

If the latter then why bother argue? Different people find different things funny.

And if you dislike Top Gear so much, why do you persist in posting in a thread about Top Gear only to whine about it? Grow up.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

"So what is your point?"

that the people that chased them off did not find the existence of liberals, supporters of Hilary Clinton, or people that hate country/westerm, as offensive.

Hey jackball, if you don't like how Americans act or think, then don't come over here with a "oh haha, we're going to piss off Americans whether they tell us to leave or not" show.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

"I disagree that the black community would drive off someone who wrote fried chicken sucks on their car. But even if they did, that would be equally unreasonable"

ok, lets find an example you can better relate to then.

you are in a crowd of football fans walking to a home game; theres a sea of people, all of a sudden on the other side of the road, theres a car passing with "[insert your team's name] sucks"; would there not be people in the crowd that would throw things at it? are those people close minded and offended by the existence of people that are not fans of their favorite football team? no; you moron, they're not.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

I'm a Man Utd fan I couldn't care less if soeone says they suck. I like them, people can disagree if they want.

Re: Schumacher = Stig

avo, you equate the actions of locals to football hooliganism. OK, acceptable analogy. But by doing it while defending the stone throwers you suggest that football hooliganism is somewhat OK. Surely it is not only me that doesn't think this makes sense?

Yell, last time I checked I was not a jackball. I don't even know what a jackball is, but I presume that it is derogatory. I may not know much but I do know that people resort to insults in arguments around the time they realise that they are wrong, but don't want to admit it. I don't like the Top Gear guys and I don't like the programme usually, but this episode was funny.

The reason they drove around with those things written on their cars was to provoke a response so that they could put it on TV. However they would not provoke a response from a reasonable person, and the response they got was entirely disproportionate. In the end it made for good TV, and that is their job. If the local retards had of done what any normal person would have done and just ignored them then it wouldn't have got on TV.

Now, why don't you toddle off and derail another thread where people are talking about something else that you don't care about.

no, im just disproving your assumption that they must be offended by the existence of people with those views. i do not defend their actions; im not a fan of redneck's either.
