we've already talked about this and my thoughts about it. violent video games have barely any effect on the person if any at all. I play Call of Duty and Halo constantly, Prototype and Oblivion as well, and you don't see me running up buildings and then slicing people with my dagger hands! X(
the issue is that parents are lax in what they allow children to buy, play and do. Look at 11 year old girls wearing short shorts. 35 percent of the time I can see their underwear, and all I have to do is glance at their shorts. what the hell!? and the mothers are standing there without a care. then there's the whole issue of me being in Gamestop and seeing a mother buy her 12 year old (I assume) son buy 2 mature rated games (GTA San Andreas and I don't remember the other) because his friends had them.
I know fourteen girls who have kids and they aren't out of high school yet. I know 2 middle schoolers with 2 year olds. The parents are the ones who hold the responsibility over the violent video games. If the parents buy them the video games without questioning its content, if the parents are the ones who don't pay attention to their kids, if the parents DON'T EVEN KNOW the kid has a DAMN GUN, then there's something wrong.
society doesn't help much in the way of it not doing much to help. Sure there's this and that, but when it comes down to it, 80% of what you see on tv involves some sort of violence (yes, even aladdin was violent) and it is just a part of our society today. I bet you 65% of the movies you watch will have a gun in them. and 45% will have at least one person die. Society has practically accept the whole problem of violence and said, "Well, ok because there's so much violence, there's nothing we can do about it, we may as well accept it and make it a part of our society since people seem to enjoy it. If we do that, then maybe people won't notice it anymore! More money! YAY!" and then society simply bats an eye at someone dying.
just 2 years ago I heard on the news "Today there was 4 deaths from a shooting. Diane I think that brings the death count up to 145 this year so far. Last year we had 468. I wonder if we'll break that record?"
come on people, what the hell are you?! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU!!! Tell me that I may know? No society should have an accepted standard for this kind of thing. Before long we're all going to be like that and that thought scares me not just a little.
[ ], if I had dagger hands I would run up buildings and stab people
My image search for "Dagger Hands" was disapointing.
dangit, i wanted to respond properly to Listos but i don't have the energy :-(.

[], societies havent accepted violence and murder, all societies are trying to reduce violent crimes; just because our governments arent being oppressive and putting us in prison states inorder to reduce the number of violent crimes, it doesnt mean our society has become indifferent to murder and violence.
The previous generation was spammed by Western movies in wich dozens of indians got shot, so that's rather irrelevant.
What is a difference is that today's society consists out of inviduals more than any other before. Parents have less time to spend with their family, there are many more divorced parents and whatnot. I think the problem lies there..
People should get more time for their own, to spend with their children. That will solve rather a lot of problems, I'm sure...
No, want my 50 cents?
You're probably half right, WFS. But I'm quite sure all problems with young adults, teenagers and even children have just one similarity: boredom.
Kids are bored these days... and there's often no parents around to watch over them, 'cause mom and dad both work. But the kid doesn't have to get a job, his parents compensate with money for the fact they're never home.
Then there's two possibilities: one, he's popular and has friends, two, he has none.
When he has friends I'm quite sure he's pretty much happy about his life. So he can spend his whole day phoning his friends and "hanging out". Which in our country often results in two things: they're fun kids and do fun stuff or they get bored some more and start using drugs... which often results in acting violent, 'cause most people can't handle drugs. Taping everything with the camera on your phone may be involved. Youtube is fun.
Then there's the other kind: the lone kid. Not always his fault, he may just be different... oh wait, that is his fault. Ah well.
There's two versions of these as well: the ones that hate theirselfs, but finally accept being a geek and the ones who will never accept they're a geek. The first ones will eventually get some friends, mostly geeks too. The last ones have the largest possibility of snapping. These just don't understand why people tease and probably just bully them. Which just frustrates them, because they can not accept this fact. Well, I'm quite sure that 99% of these people just joins some sort of martial arts class or starts visiting the gym and eventually becomes a "cool kid".
But, there's always that tiny group among them ready to snap. These are often the ones with practically NO friends and a fascination with violence. He's not violent because he plays videogames or watches action movies on tv. No, he just likes violence. And he's bored... far too bored for anyone his age. So he start thinking... and thinking... until he finally reaches his final solution. He's gonna kill them all.
Sooo... ban boredom? ![]()
Indeed, indeed..
It's a combination of being "lonely" in a family and psychological (children aren't complete inviduals yet) way, being spoiled and being bored..
Put the young to work building cheap luxury goods for export to America!
I think we've always had this problem, but it is only now in this modern era of CCTV and mobile phone cameras that we are unable to ignore it, swwepit under the rug, or simply pretend it doesn't exist.
Angie "We never did anything like that in my day."
Grandma "When I first met you you were 15, on speed, and being buggered by a gang of bikers" Or words to that effect anyway. (I love my grandma, when I'm living dead I want to be just like her)
Ok, slightly poor example but you get the point (I hope).
Child labour ftw.
@Blonde
I was the lone kid, but I was accepted by the populace. I guess one might argue I was the loner, but I never really hung out with people. I drifted between crowds when they would accept me but usually I just ate alone. Now you can't tell me that I have killed a dozen people ![]()
you have a very good point though. It does come down to the kids and the parents.
@avogadro despite societies trying to prevent crime and violence, they have accepted it nonetheless. Hell, there were animal sacrifices in the bible, killing and murder. I guarantee you that if any society WANTED to be rid of violence and crime, they would be devoid of life. It is natural for humanity to cause crimes and violence, to a greater or lesser degree. Hell, most people get off from violence. They say that violence, death and sex are so closely related that we find ourselves turned on by it. (most anyways)
and yes, child labor ftw!!!
You're what in statistics they call an oddity ![]()
/me shouts for joy
jippie!
The reason people go out and kill isn't violent video games, it's humanity's mind-numbing stupidity. Try and ban that!
HELL YES!!! 3 points to Eltie!
There's always been stupidity ![]()
