Topic: I wonder if they realize...

I really do wonder if whoever came up with the "soldiers 7 defence, droids 7 attack" idea realized just how much this changes the game. I personally never thought there was a problem with soldiers and droids (if it ain't broke don't fix it, cuz I'm afraid of change tongue) Those who chose droids in their race, got an extra bonus of another attack point or two.

You now run in to a game where an "attacker" has completely lost the main "attacking" advantage he had. Furthermore, it forces resourcers with attack bonuses to choose between a focus on attacking and a focus on defending.

Why was it changed? There was nothing wrong with the way it was, and this is now a completely different game. I hate it for the same reason everybody hates the ideas posted in the idea forum about "battlecruisers" and "super fighters" or whatever. The game had achieved a good balance. Why was it changed?

Re: I wonder if they realize...

balance?

droids > soldiers is not really a balance

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Under "Common Ideas" in the Idea Forum

---- New Basic Units ----
Similar to the super weapon idea explained above, we often get suggestions for more units like tanks, advanced fighters, cyborgs etc.

We currently have a balanced system, and it is unlikely to change anytime soon. The reason we have so few units is to keep the game simple. It appeals to a larger player base and forces people to think to win their battles. What is the point of having a new unit that really will serve no other purpose other than to exist, remember there are not many variable we can apply to a new unit. The only variable we really have is attack bonus, which is already taken care of by droids. So there is no need, and there will never be one.

Re: I wonder if they realize...

It was changed for exactly that reason, we wanted the game play to change a bit and force people to do something other than the same old thing over and over.
I was the one that came up with it (although probably many before me, as with any idea). Originally it was the plan to only have it in ICPG as a test, but this was not possible.

Re: I wonder if they realize...

I think just one new unit would be a good idea, as these changes have made things a lot tougher to play both games, attacking and defending.  Its very hard for an attacker to get hold of a planet with the weak defence of the droid, but the soldier really isn't an option for an attacker.  I do like the soldier improved to match the attack of a droid when defending, means bankers might be able to defend themselves for a change!

I think there should be three units, set up as follows...

Unit 1
Attack 2
Defence 8

Unit 2
Attack 5
Defence 6

Unit 3
Attack 8
Defence 2

Values ofc can be fiddled, but thats the idea.  Essentially the attacker has a choice, either use the third unit and wreck havok once you get going, or the second which is easier to get into systems but then you need more to take a planet.  Building a mix isn't really an option.

Re: I wonder if they realize...

Seems like a good change to me hmm

Droids now have have a harder time to kill a banker which makes it harder and require more thought with more risk. Soldiers help loads for defense now when before they weren't nearly as good from seeing the numbers...

As for sending and holding, I keep a balance of both and when I send breaker or important fleets I use enough sols to defend when it's taken, and enough droids to break... It really is quite simple

Re: I wonder if they realize...

Attackers still have the advantage of having race attack bonus and military research tongue

Your = possessive. As in, "your grammar sucks."
You're = you are. As in, "you're an idiot for not knowing the difference."

Exactly, its still VERY one-sided towards the attacker (considering attackers usually have the larger fleet anyway!)

Re: I wonder if they realize...

I like the change, it made people think! I think the game needs more changes to be honest just to freshen it up. If it aint broke then dont fix it is correct, but this game is broke! Look at the player numbers now compared to five years ago or more. More new gameplay ftw!
