one of the better quantam strategies i've seen in a while.
note: also the only quantam strat i've seen in a while.
Quantum are a scary race lol. It's very heavily skewed as an overall race which does make them good as a SS but at the same time not. I think it's kind of like partax except these guys have science instead of magic. As a general rule I'd say your best bet is to do TO CF banking if you want to be an SS quantum but that'll screw up your TO ratios with the resource buildings
. I'd say if you truly desire to be a quantum SS you'll want to go TO/CF banker exclusively and be active enough to play the market a lot for your resources.
Something you'll want to remember is the 60% bonus to research, if you do it right you can easily manipulate that so instead of getting 10% of your input cash into research you'd get 1.6 RP per 10 gc you put in. This makes a full CF/TO superior as you can (hopefully) crank up your research to get pretty significant Econ/Construction bonuses through cash injections.
One (very small) bonus to a quantum SS would be their droids, this means that offensively you're as good as a banker with 35% attack bonus (do the math) but will lack defensive power you could make up for with sols or lasers or figs or whatever. The bonus to quantum for having droids with all they have is that you could pretty easy use those extra research %s to fund military and crank up some powerfully defensive droids while not having to worry about them eating your food. One word of caution, while they appear to be a strong pop banker race by merit of their pop growth, income, and TO... They aren't all too good at the same time
. You'd have to be very careful as you get a -30% magic bonus which is their only downfall that can not be made up for with the use of their science bonus. This means you'd need a ton extra wizards (over 2x that of the opposing partax) which would seriously hurt your income. That's why I don't advise pop banker as you can just as easily forget your need to protect pop and only use raw buildings without ruining your income with wizards. I do suggest keeping wizards though just for the sake of protecting yourself from Kill Scientists.
Honestly your best bet as a quantum is to play as a resourcer. Couple reasons:
People say they'd be "ok" as a pop banker from - Population Growth: +25% | Income: +30%
My personal opinion this is where they fail - Magic: -30%
That means you need loads more wizards than a typical pop banker or even a custom pop banker to protect yourself from Estorms and hypnos. People pop bank as revalons but it still seems that the loss of 30% for income and the loss of 20% magic is too much and adversely affects your defense. Cause, if you need more wizards, but you get less cash... it makes you get even LESS cash.
Things to consider, they can work as a banker race based off their pop and income bonuses, plus they get TOs which is a bonus! But, if you go banker go CF and make sure you get lots of them lol.
My suggestion as I said was a resourcer:
With the new introduction of resource research, the quantum research bonus of 60% is pwnage! 10% higher than a custom!
But seriously, what else is there to do as a resourcer except op? Well? Quantum get to do a lot of that lol.
On that note though, Quantum is a strange race as they're the only race other than Partax to possess a % ending in something other than 0 with their 25% pop growth. In order to recreate a quantum as a custom race, it can be better beneficial. Most people don't even use quantum and there is a lot of smack talk to those who do. Making a better custom race is probably much more effective and they technically have nothing special that you can't get by making your own race. Their strong suit is purely they're good everywhere.
Everyone knows that Torqez retires the first time he's allowed to pop bank quantum for the fun of it. Ignore him
euh Trundar, you made a mistake
Magic bonus only works on the offensive, not defense..
it works for defense too...
how often do i have to say that in this forum ![]()
i think you should make an announcement, i am getting bored of people thinking it DOESN'T work on defense.
"euh Trundar, you made a mistake
Magic bonus only works on the offensive, not defense.."
That's the only thing people have had to say against my strat and it wasn't even right?
Come on, don't let me feel smart.. REBUKE! Can't get tag points if it's not supported/slammed.
Trundar, I'll rebuke it: playing SS with anything, let alone quantum is like our start strat - it needs activity to make it work ![]()
Having said that, flipmode is normally pretty active from what I can remember, so he could pull it off
Better?
Yeah
, but activity is the key to anything so that hardly counts as a strat. He asked how to make Quantum work as an SS, I wasn't going to tell him whether or not he should, just how he could.
TY
and as much as I want to bank researching in military and attacking I'm goign to stick with custom. MAybe next time when I'm in a dumpy fam.
ignore trundar. go resource based, with 60 research you will have 80 + con and resources. can go cf start if you are really SS also
they also make excellent research builders given their income bonus they can hold cfs and make income till they are passed on
I went SS quantam this round in PW, mainly building mf's and rc's, and to not be totaly reliant on the market i made a few cf today. Will have to see how the market developes, if iron prices stay around 14+ i'll stay mostly mf's and rc's. If not i'll go more heavy on the cf's. At this moment i got 60% mfs, 20% rc's and 20% cf's. Those 20% rc's give me about 65% in relation to my nw (so hypotheticaly when i have 100 nw i get around 65 rc points a tick).
This isn't the best way to go SS, but quantam seems to have a bit of everything which makes it nice and easy to play as a SS.
You'd be better off going MF/RC/RS then CF/TO with quantum...
As Kagar puts it, change your strategy as you play (depending on market
factors, availability of planets, etc, thoughout the round).
