Topic: Good First Gun?

I'm thinking after I pay down my credit cards its time to put aside childish things and join the community of Men.  Since finding a girlfriend is marginally more difficult and expensive than getting a gun license in CA, I'm gonna go get a gun.

I'm thinking of a Ruger Redhawk 4" barrel revolver in .44 magnum because then I can use everything from fmj .44 remington magnum to leadnose cowboy-plinkin .44 special rounds.  but that's pricey at $861 and ammo is up there.

anybody got ideas?

pff..get a rifle. Far more fun to play with ... precision shooting at all sorts of ranges/conditions. Also lower maintenance. A revolver..built to kill people..has too many limitations in what you can do sporting wise in comparison. But thats just my opinion :0!

I'll hopefully be getting something along the lines of a Remington 700 SPS .308 in around 2 years - that particular model barely pushes $500-$600 in the US.

Definitely go for a rifle. This state is very much anti handgun. Rifles are also a lot more fum for target practice. If you don't plan on killing people or hunting large animals, just get a 22. The ammunition will be much cheaper.

You could also get a 25 caliber air rifle. Those are fun. A bit hard to cock though.

actually I want to shoot .44 Special like son of sam but the best .44 s are the magnums which will handle .44 special as an afterthought

mm..I agree with A10..getting a bolt-action .22 rifle would be awesome if you're just going down the range. I find the act of reloading a bolt action rifle almost as exciting as firing it..but thats just me 0_o

Pixies is weird. If you want something with some range get an AR-15.  I have 2 I'll vouch for them!  There are some very nice European assault rifles as well, but I haven't had much experience with them already being armed to the teeth and not spending on that sort of thing much in years.
