Topic: Warhammer Novels

I was looking at some warhammer books in a shop yesterday & was wondering if you guys knew much about them.

I've always had a passing interesting in warhammer but never really got into the tabletop game since I can't paint for ****.

still I'm interested in the series & I love the whole story behind the Imperial Guard & Space Marines etc.

Are there good books out there?

Re: Warhammer Novels

The ultramarines one has been said to be good.

There are some nice imperial guard stories.

Usually the stories revolve around shooting people to bits with maybe a hint of mystery or compassion if ur reading IG

And warhammer =/= warhammer 40k tongue

That's a whole different set of minis and stories, but similar in many ways.

Borg2 has some pretty sweet stories about his own chapter of marines, but it's fairly biased towards SPESS MUHREENS.

Re: Warhammer Novels

Slayer series is alright.

Re: Warhammer Novels

Well I did notice that its pretty much all Space Marines though I like the Imperial Guard & there's some stories about them.

Re: Warhammer Novels

I find that the best Warhammer 40,000 books are the ones that are about individual characters rather than about yet another group of clones with penis-extension weapons.

Re: Warhammer Novels

I thought the set of books revolving around Gaunt's Ghosts were great - but that was around 5 years ago..I was about 15/16 at the time. I don't know if it'd still have the same appeal to me these days. In relation to a single book - Dan Abnett's "Honour Guard" was pretty good.

Btw - I was a hardcore Imperial Guard tabletop player ;P..pwned plenty over-confident space marines players. To anyone who understands..i've had a colonel fluke beating an entire terminator assult squad in close combat and run them down as they retreated..and also I had a vet sergeant last 4 rounds of combat with a large group of khorne bloodletters..tying them up most of the game and knocking a fair few of them out. Good ol' imperial guard. It's all way to expensive these days though sad

Also I have yet to see a decent book about Tau except firewarrior

Re: Warhammer Novels

Well I guess it's hard  to write books about non-human characters. plus Space Marines are cool & eye-catching.

Re: Warhammer Novels

If you think Space marines are remotly human you have  a lot to learn.

It's all dick waving. Especially the [ ] Ultrasmurfs, Blood ravens that seem to have a billion people in their chapter. Everywhere at once

Re: Warhammer Novels

Hehe..I had a lot of fantasy/40k/inquisiter stuff back then. I have to admit I did have a small army of dark angels...only because I really liked the colour scheme (I liked the painting bit), and the story that goes with them. I always found it weird how people loved orcs..i loved killing them! X(

Re: Warhammer Novels

They can make things work like magic if enough of them actually believe that it works.

Also their two gods Gork and Mork can alone kick the shit out of Khorne or any other pansy ass god

Re: Warhammer Novels

Tau are the win.

Re: Warhammer Novels

If I started up again, I'd probably go all out and slowly build up a small and incredibly expensive force of Death Korps..they look sooo good, hate orks, and are completely stubborn. But yeah..Tau are pretty groovy tongue.

Re: Warhammer Novels

If you've never read the Horus Heresy series - do so. You're in for an absolute treat.

I'm working my way through the Black Library's collection right now

Re: Warhammer Novels

The Horus Heresy art books are lubly.

Re: Warhammer Novels

I think I'll buy the first Horus Heresy to see what it's like.
