But most forums on the internet are public. So a somewhat seemingly private conversation
in the real world, suddenly turns into a publicly recorded conversation on the internet.

This is absurd. Thats like saying if no one can see you, you are invisible.

If nobody knows your beliefs you are STILL an individual -- you just don't have an individualistic
identify within society.
