Topic: Rebuilding the GOP

http://www.rebuildtheparty.com/

Something for many of the radical conservatives that inhabit this board. Many of the people there are mad at the previous administration and mad at their leaders for leading their party astray from their core philosophies. They don't support the likes of Ron Paul, and are far more moderate/conservative than ppl like Rush. This is the real conservative movement and is something you see more on the local level, at least here in Texas. This is something that the national party needs to fix. There are a few points that I disagree with them about but that's to be expected considering I'm a moderate. But this is the path that the party should take.

I found this post refreshing IMO.

Re: Rebuilding the GOP

More BS. Brennan's dreams were realized in 2005 and 2006, solid Republican majorities that governed by ignoring "extremes" and doing whatever the hell they wanted. It is because of those lies the Party got its ass handed to it.

Guess what? MOST Americans don't vote, most Americans have never called themselves "Conservative" and most have not registered Republican. It's never been higher than 33%. But conservative Republicans still get 55% of the vote.

Somehow the "pragmatists" insist the last Republican victory is no model at all. I know why. Because in 2004 the GOP said, "we're all on board, vote Republicans in and we'll govern like a well oiled machine in Congress and the White Housen we'll do what we've tried to do for twenty years". They won big on that message. And then they said "oh you thought we meant NOW? Oh haha you silly conservative".

The whole point of the greasy oily "listen to America then come up with core values" campaign is to obliterate any policy commitment by the Party. Any elected Republican can do what they like.

I said for five years, the Party could either be millions of people working for a purpose, or it could be a professional association for nonDemocrat politicians. They chose the latter. But guess what? It ain't your "leader" who tells friends and families and total strangers why Republicans are good and necessary. It aint Mitt Romney walking neighborhoods banging on doors for the GOP. It ain't McCain telling the carpool moms they can trust that Republican on TV. Those very necessary people have been used and know they were lied to and made tools of liars against their own kin. And now the message to them is "anybody who cares about the agenda is too extreme to be heard".  I'm one, I hear from others and we're pissed at being lied to, which is "not helpful" to the new GOP. Fine. Get bent.

Instead of quoting polls and demographics about how people don't agree with you YET, as an excuse to do nothing, try arguing your core values to the people. But that presumes the moderates have any. And I don't think they do. They have preferences they're "realistic" about.

Re: Rebuilding the GOP

Chris,

Abstinence education and spreading democracy in the middle east are examples of a lack of pragmatism.

The Republican party needs to stick to free-market economics and a self-interested/goal directed foreign policy, and abandon all this religious and social authoritarianism crap.

Re: Rebuilding the GOP

By moving further right you are decreasing the size of your voter base. You are appealing to a smaller group of people. If a party wishes to survive it must be inclusive to as many groups of people as possible, which is more to the center right. You can choose to be either part of the solution or continue to be part of the problem. The best things for far right conservatives to do is to simply bite their tongues and be quiet while the party rebuilds so that it can have a voice once it regains some of it's political power again. If they continue bickering like this they will eventually be cast out of the party, form a new party and the democrats will have unsurpassed political control for several decades. I prefer having some diversity in the political spectrum, one house democratic, one house republican or something like that. It forces compromise and dialogue.

Try promoting the free market with 50% dropout rates and 20% teen pregnancy.
democracy in the middle east IS a goal-driven, self-interested foriegn policy.  Giving Muslim dictators whatever they want didn't work for Kissinger either. Google "Yom Kippur War" and "Ayatollah Khomeini"

"By moving further right you are decreasing the size of your voter base. You are appealing to a smaller group of people."

Disproved by the last two elections.  Bush got 62 million votes, McCain got 55 million.

"If a party wishes to survive it must be inclusive to as many groups of people as possible, which is more to the center right."

Center-right "inclusiveness" means letting us "extremists" vote and volunteer and donate, but not endorsing their views or shifting policy one inch in their favor.

" You can choose to be either part of the solution or continue to be part of the problem. "

The solution is general economic malaise, foreign distrust and contempt for America, and universal acknowledgement that the Left and Center have failed.  Since you wont be TOLD not to sit on a hot stove...

"The best things for far right conservatives to do is to simply bite their tongues and be quiet while the party rebuilds so that it can have a voice once it regains some of it's political power again."

Inclusion, eh?

"If they continue bickering like this they will eventually be cast out of the party, form a new party and the democrats will have unsurpassed political control for several decades."

See the described solution above.  It took Ford and Carter to elect Reagan.  Sad but true.  I've already left, many of us have, and we won't come back til you have sense beat into you.
You could do everything TIME wants you to do to rebuild and they'll STILL vote Democrat.

'I prefer having some diversity in the political spectrum, one house democratic, one house republican or something like that. It forces compromise and dialogue."

I don't want any of that, and it's because the Party settles for that crap instead of REFORMING GOVT OUR WAY AS PROMISED that it's in therapy

Not if by moving to the middle you lost everyone on the right's support, as has been the case in recent history. Sure, you COULD go all the way to the left and meet Obama at socialism. It might even get you more supporters. But short of that move, they'd only do better to actually get the non-socialists in this country voting rather than staying home because it really doesn't matter if you're ALL THE WAY left or just 9/10 the way.

Re: Rebuilding the GOP

Balz,

50% drop outs and 20% teen pregnancy... you cooked that up didn't you?

And supporting dictators works, just maybe not in a few instances.

Re: Rebuilding the GOP

hrm it's 50% dropout in LA Unified, 20% teen preggers, not yet...Planned Parenthood wants it 99% sexually active and 0% pregnant.

but already 50% of high school freshmen will not graduate.

Dictators tend to be temporary.

I'd agree! except...they're not gonna pick up more voters, that's the sad thing, the Left trusts their own veteran crew, the indies know these guys are being total whores.  If their split-the-difference system worked, McCain should not have lost 7 million Bush voters.  McCain was never ahead of Obama.  Never.

Re: Rebuilding the GOP

Balz,

A school in LA... A school of impoverished hipsters doesn't count, lol. But granted, this condom stuff is nonsense. While a condom will delay the consequences of being stupid, you'll still feel the consequences of being stupid. We need to teach youth to have safe sex, and that includes monogamy and regular testing. Teaching condoms is inefficient and is not teaching safe behavior. But likewise, abstinence is equally stupid.

Oh, some dictators come to ruin thanks to their stupidity. But democratically elected governments are even more temporary.

Re: Rebuilding the GOP

Egypt and Turkey are doing great, where's the temporary ones?  Your big foriegn policy guru is Kissinger, master of the obvious and more passive than a Buddhist nun, even the Dalai Lama is more proactive and has got about as much done for himself.

Los Angeles UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, 800,000 students.  50% high school dropout rate.

Abstinence backed by flogging worked for 175 years.  If you know her dad will be at your door with his kinfolk and your dad will either give you up or get worked over with you, you probably will keep your pants up

To the stocks with you madam! So young children can throw rotting fruit and feces at your face! Humiliation at the extreme!

Everything bad in the economy is now Obama's fault. Every job lost, all the debt, all the lost retirement funds. All Obama. Are you happy now? We all get to blame Obama!

Re: Rebuilding the GOP

Balz,

Democracy won't work in the middle east for cultural and economic reasons. And while some dictatorships come to ruin, other don't (like Saudi Arabia).

Kissinger was timid? WTF? What are you on?

And boy are you an extremist wanting to enforce a pointless goal like abstinence so ruthlessly... no wonder the Republican party is losing support.

Re: Rebuilding the GOP

It's growing in Turkey and Egypt, it's working out in Iraq, Lebanon got raped by foriegners, Kuwait has an elected parliament.  I see no reason democracy won't work better than in Europe--where its sublimated to a bureaucratic technocracy.

Kissinger wasn't Philo Vance, I grant you, but as you've said earlier, he accepted defeat as a reality.  Loo, seerr.
