Topic: omg The Missing link?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30826552/

47 million year old fossil is supposed to be the earliest form of primate.

Now here's something curious:

"The fossil was apparently discovered in 1983 by private collectors who split and eventually sold two parts of the skeleton on separate plates: The lesser part was restored and, in the process, partly fabricated to make it look more complete."

Why is a fossil discovered 25 years ago just being announced? What exactly do they mean by "Partly fabricated"?

You smell that? That's the smell of bull excrement.  Why would they need to make it "look more complete"? Do they mean: "look more like a human and less like a rat" ? With the scores of missing link fossils having been proved fake in the past, I'm very very skeptical of this one and of evolutionary science in general.

Re: omg The Missing link?

that is how the "Science" of anthropology works

I remember this PBS show I saw where Michael Leakey explained how he analyzes fossils

looky, he said, here's a early human ankle, now we found it in a streambed and it was stepped on by a gnu and crushed

I'll just repair the damage shall I

and he took a saw to the original bone and "corrected" the malformity due to the gnu

"now you see that" he said "that's not the ankle of a tree-climber.  so we know man walked upright at this time"

He wasn't making a joke, he was showing "o aren't michael leakey the greatest, I can repair fossils with power tools, that's how skillful I am"

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.
