Topic: Predator: Unbloods

White Meat, that's what they called him. Most of the time.

His existence was always tolerated rather than accepted; found during a Bloodhunt against the dishonoured Hish clan the only thing that saved him from death was his flesh rather than his infancy, so utterly different was his flesh from the flesh of the rest of the clan, hence his name. A cursory examination of his genes confirmed that he was indeed not related to any of the Hish, but that did not alter the association.

He stood shakily and began making his way to the waste room near the front of the passenger shuttle. "Hey! White Meat's going to void himself again! Maybe we should change your name to Soft Meat?" The laughter was cut short as the Female stood quickly. She slowly made her way towards the one who had called out, mandibles clicking slowly, softly, "Everyone has voided themselves at least once." She tipped her head to one side, her eyes shone as though she were about to make a trophy out of a great prey, "Everyone except you. Have you been on a ship before, hmm? How many times have you failed this hunt?" More laughter.

The door closed and the lock hissed behind White as he leaned heavily on the wall, his head hanging down and his mandibles splayed as wide as he could manage. He stood there for what seemed like hours, before finally the familiar hot rush of fluid came rapidly up his throat. Suddenly the door started banging rapidly as it the motor tried to pull it open without opening the lock and his ears rang with the sound of screeching electronics. Just as the vomit began to leave him the ship bucked, the sound of metal rending and buckling drowned out the sound of screeching electronics, and the waste pot seemed to leap up and attack him, spraying him with his own waste.
As consciousness abandoned him all he could think was "I hope nobody finds me".

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Re: Predator: Unbloods

He rubbed his forearms, trying to become more familiar with the new blades. He looked around the passenger shuttle and stretched his arms. Then he saw another one of his kind stand; White Meat. Another predator spoke up as White Meat passed by.

"Hey! White Meat's going to void himself again! Maybe we should change your name to Soft Meat?" Nox exchanged glances with a female predator, who rose to challenge the speaker.

"Everyone has voided themselves at least once. Everyone except you. Have you been on a ship before, hmm? How many times have you failed this hunt?" Nox laughed at this, along with the bulk of the others. White Meat entered the waste room and the door's lock hissed shut. The female sat back down, her seat next to Nox's.

"You shut him up quickly." Nox said with a laugh.

"He deserved it. They only make fun of White Meat because he hasn't proven himself, just like them." She replied softly.

"I think White Meat will show them, once we finally get there." Nox said and looked towards the cockpit of the shuttle. He turned back to the female predator and he saw her mouth open, but now words ever came out. At that same moment the ship bucked violently and fire flooded through the shuttle. Nox barely got out of its path, as the female pushed him over. He bounced into the air as the ship bucked heavily again and then everything went dark as power went out completely. Nox stood and felt around, but walked into a jagged piece of metal. He stumbled backwards, clutching the wound in his forehead and tripped over a body. He slipped out of consciousness slowly and all he could feel was the blood on his hands.

Re: Predator: Unbloods

Uruk'Hai, Uruk to his friends sat silently next to one he did not know, but he did not care, all he was concentrated on was keeping his insides from turning. Out of all the times he felt like voiding himself he was able to control it. All but one.

"Another one for the void box." Uruk thought as the one they called white meat rose. "He is a strange one." He thought as the taunting started. But it was silenced fast enough.

Uruk heard a minute thud, it sounded far away but still close but what came with the thud was all but pleasant. The ship dropped considerably, the lights flickered and flash fire raged from the cockpit before disappearing. But they shook terribly once more and Urkuk was hit by a steel bar before passing out his hands clutching against his seat.

Re: Predator: Unbloods

White picked himself up from the stinking waste room floor, shaking his head in disgust. A creaking sound, metal scraping against metal, brought him back to reality. He whirled around and began hammering at the door's edge, trying to bend it enough to get his fingers through. Something exploded and the floor shook, turning the creaking into a terrible groan. White braced himself against the back wall and kicked out with both feet, pounding the door off of its rail with a boom.
There was a screech as he tugged the door open and stumbled out into the ruined ship, a warm breeze blowing through the far end of the passenger compartment. Beyond was open air and forested hills, scarred by the gouged earth that marked their crash, and the ruined engineering section some five hundred meters away which was belching thick smoke swarming with glowing radioactive particles; the engine was ready to blow, taking the ship with it.
He roared an alarm and those that were able quickly staggered to their feet. One had lost their mask but seemed to be able to breathe quite comfortably. That's good, he thought, plenty of Methane. One of the others took him from his thoughts, "We need to take what we can and run."
White turned and quickly checked the cockpit, which was splattered with glowing life; all of the elders were dead, unrecognisably smashed, "Nothing here", he turned and was tossed a spear, "Let's go!"

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Re: Predator: Unbloods

A second explosion awakened Nox. He looked around and saw the void box's door bust off of its rail. He stood slowly and looked around, a few figures were also getting up, one breathing fine with no mask. Well that takes care of one thing, he thought and whirled around as the called White Meat roared a warning. Nox looked at the engineering section and felt his stomach turn over.

"We need to take what we can and run." He said to White, who turned and headed into the cockpit while Nox searched some of the remaining bodies. He found three spears, grabbed them and turned in time to see White exit the cockpit.

"Nothing here," White said as Nox tossed him a spear, "Let's Go!"

Nox tossed the other spear to a close-by Predator, nodded and ran after White, towards the open air. They jumped out of the crashed ship and ran as fast as possible, the others following them. They reached a small rise, which dipped down into a stream.

"This will have to do!" Nox said as he jumped down into the stream and slammed himself against the ground. The others did the same and a few tense moments passed before the explosion went off, rocking the ground. Fire and debris flew over the hill, water splashed out of the stream from the shockwave and the sky grew black for a minute or two. When it was over, Nox was the first to stand and walk up the small hill, looking out over what remained.

Re: Predator: Unbloods

Uruk joined Nox and they both examined the crash site. While Uruk was still figuring out what had gone wrong White and Nox were already heading to the crash site to find out if anything was left undamaged. He was alone in the sense that the guy standing next to him seemed to have no real understanding of what just happened. "It will faid." Uruk said as the guy started to stutter something incoherently.

"I think I found something!" White said as he cleared some debris.

Re: Predator: Unbloods

"I think I found something!" White cleared aside some debris, some hull fragments and a shattered support beam that were still hot from the blast, making it dificult to see anything clearly. There it was, defintiely a cold spot. He tried to adjust his mask to compensate for the surrounding heat but to no avail. "It's too hot down here." He said as he tossed the item to Uruk.

Uruk and the maskless one examined the object for a second before chattering exitedly amongst themselves. "Well, what is it?" Called Nox as he pulled at the remains of a bulkhead door, letting it fall to the ground with a dull boom. "It's an Honor Bomb." Upon hearing this Uruk exitedly ran towards the pair, pounding up the side of the newly formed and still crackling crater in only four strides, "Let me see!"

As Uruk turned the device over in his hands White called out "Does it work?" And the three stopped chattering and looked at him "Why don't you check?". Maskless was the first to start laughing, and White tipped his head to one side, bemused. As the others laughed too White realised what he had said and clapped a hand to his masked forhead, "Idiot" He muttered to himself.

As White strode back up the crater he had a sudden realisation and called up to the others, "Where's the other one? I saw someone else running too".

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

"Maybe he left on his own?" Urkuk said.

Re: Predator: Unbloods

"Anything I find won't be much," White shrugged, "I think the crash did something to my mask, I can't get it to filter out the residual heat." As the others made their way back down into the crater White turned and attempted to scan the treeline but saw nothing. "Even if my mask is broken I should still see him," He thought aloud, "Or his tracks."

The feeling came over him again, a sense of uncertainty, of uneasiness, the sense that something was wrong, but he could not place it. "Hold on," He quickly turned, "What about the Surgery lockers, aren't they designed to survive a crash?" Maskless shrugged as Uruk turned his head, searching, "I think so, but the ship is supposed to survive a crash, and..." He spread his arms wide, indicating the wreckage all around him. Nox indicated the bulkhead door he had let fall to the floor earlier, "Well that's the door to Surgery, but I don't see Surgery. It's supposed to be in the centre of the ship." White looked at what was left of the cockpit and passenger bay, missing the rear bulkhead, then turned to the engineering section, missing the forward bulkhead, "So... what? Surgery fell out?"

Re: Predator: Unbloods

It was nearing nightfall when they decided to quit searching. They had nog found much, some basic tools and such, the only notable finding was that they found one of the shoulder mounted weapons, although it had been damaged Uruk was sure he could fix it given enough time.
"It will be dark soon, lets head out and explore the area somemore and find the other guy before we get some rest." Nox said.
"It won't be dark for a very long time." Uruk commented as he fixed his tools on his belt and then streched out."
"What do you mean?" White asked.
"It has been sunset for a while now, a couple of hours. I'm pretty sure the sun will rise in a few seconds. But i'm not sure if there is a second sun or that the rotation speed is perfectly alligned with it."

Re: Predator: Unbloods

"Hey!" Nox shouted to the maskless one, who was climbing to the top of a pile of rubble. "Watch out!" It was too late. The pile became unstable and it scattered under his weight. The maskless one disappeared into a cloud of dust and smoke as the pile collapsed. Nox dashed forawrd and searched around for him.

"Ow!" A voice said behind him. Nox turned to see him on the ground. Nox bent down and picked up the maskless one, a bone sticking out of the side of one of his legs.

"I'll say, next time... Watch out." Nox said and carried the maskless one to a clear area and set him down. Nox turned to the others. "Any body find anything I can use to make a splint? Or a medical kit?"

Re: Predator: Unbloods

White turned away from the forever setting sun and began to make his way down the side of the crater, his footfalls disturbing small pieces of rubble and dirt which hit the remains of the passenger compartment with a metallic tinkling sound, "The door rail in the waste room should make a good splint, but I don't know what you will tie it on with." From the semi darkness at the front of the compartment came a clang as White stood on what used to be the waste room door, "Oh yeah, I'd forgot about that." Crouching in the gloom he extended his wristblades and delicately worked the points under the rail, curled his fist, and then quickly pulled upwards in a rising ark. He did this again with his other hand, at the opposite end of the rail, and the length of construction grade metal came away easily.

White made his way back through the scorched and scarred remains, "This should be just the right size too." He proclaimed proudly. As he stepped back into the light of the forever red sun Uruk was speaking to Nox, "...of life support. I don't think we'll need it again." In his hands he held several lengths of cable.

The three stood wordlessly around Maskless for a moment or two, then suddenly Nox shouted, "Now!".
He dropped to the ground, braced his foot against Maskless' crotch and savagely pulled on his leg, causing the snapped bone to slither back into place and maskless to howl with pain. Quickly White pressed the splint to Maskless' leg, gripping the limb as hard as he could, and an instant later Uruk was tying the lengths of cable arounf the length and splint. As soon as he had tied the last knot he shouted, "Away!" And all three simultaneously leapt away from the howling maskless predator as he staggered to his feet brandishing both pairs of wristblades.

Maskless glared at the three, his breath coming in ragged gasps.

"Ow"

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Re: Predator: Unbloods

"Ow."

The Maskless one stood there, breathing hard, his eyes on fire. The three of them looked at him, then Nox seemed to shudder a bit, with a stupid grin on his face.

"What the hell are you laughing at?!" Maskless yelled at him, his anger rising. Nox simply couldn't help himself and started laughing out loud. White and Uruk exchanged confused glances, as Maskless stormed away.

"Did you see his face? It was like... like he didn't know it was coming!" Nox said in between fits of laughter. White and Uruk thought about it, looked over at Maskless, then back at Nox. Nox had fallen to his knees, holding himself up, laughing uncontrollably. White started laughing too. Soon Uruk started laughing as well, and for several minutes they all laughed, sharing the first bits of true happiness on this planet. Maskless stumbled away, hobbling while using his spear to support himself like a crutch.

Re: Predator: Unbloods

"Don't trip and fall over the debris!" Nox shouted at Maskles's back who was still pissed and walking toward the canepy.
"Let's follow him and set up camp. I need to get working on this gun who knows what creatures lurk here." Uruk commented.
"Then use your mask to look for them stupid!" White said as they started walking.

Nox and Uruk started scanning in many diffrent wave lengts but could not find a shred of life. "All the animals must have run from the blast." Nox said. "I hope so." Uruk replied.
