Re: EU Slaps Intel

Agreed.

but that isnt the point tongue

the point is Intel have been illegally breaking competition rules for 9 years or more & they finally got smacked smile

Re: EU Slaps Intel

1. Intel is easier to upgrade

2. Yeah they are guilty as hell, "the judge ignored the realities of the competitive market" = "yeah we bribed them--and some frakin rats gonna get theirs"

3. It would be cool if Intel gave them 2 billion Euro and told them to keep the change

Re: EU Slaps Intel

dont quote the entire news

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Re: EU Slaps Intel

It might be easily affordable by intel but at least its a sign they try to deal with these kind of excessive monopolies. Even if they did it the clumsy-EU-institution way. I bet US will do the same with intel the EU did in their own version. The US has good laws for these problems. However its a difficult problem without a simple solution. Its a very difficult task to make good regulations witch do not harm the market.

Re: EU Slaps Intel

amd's new Phenom II's are pretty solid; better then their Intel counterparts.

Re: EU Slaps Intel

lol@yell
@avo:
maybe, but even if intel is better, they won't keep it up without competition. Our entire market system is based on competition.

Re: EU Slaps Intel

littlepaul, i think you misread my post, i was saying amd's newest chips are competitive with Intel's. and it was purely a response to someone who said Intel had better chips, which even before AMD came out with their newest chips wasnt the case for servers and supercomputers; but being the new phenom II's being the most visible example for regularly consumers, i simply referenced it. i wasnt saying one company is evil, or should be bankrupt or whatever. i agree, competition is important.

Re: EU Slaps Intel

@avo:
I idd misread your post.

Re: EU Slaps Intel

the desktop PC will be strictly for work within ten years

I mean only offices will use them

i doubt it, gaming on the pc will still be popular. sony and microsoft spent more money then they could ever expect to earn when they developed the playstation 3 and xbox 360; neither will be willing to do it again; pc's will have superior computing power, and will have games that are visually superior to their game console counter-parts. the one main hurdle of pc gaming is piracy, companies dont want to develop games that 1 copy could be put on 1,000 different computers; but anti-piracy software is getting better and better.

Re: EU Slaps Intel

also, in intel's defense; the vast majority of the home computer market doesnt know the different between a e7400 and a q8200; if the places people bought computers werent biased towards intels, even if intels had the superior chips, they would loose vast amounts of market space to amd; simply because of people's ignorance on cpu's.

Re: EU Slaps Intel

Which chip is better is irrelevant the customers can decide which one they want.

It doesn't sound like intel did anything unscrupulous they offered a discount in order to get a deal they can put whatever kind of condition they want on it. Government intervention in an industry almost always makes the products more expensive and lower quality.

AMD chips are all based on intel designs anyways. As a result of a court decision intel is required to share its development with AMD.

it is never consistentent, sometimes amd has the best value for the money, and sometimes intel does; just another example or why intel needs a bias in the marketplace inorder to maintain their markertshare, teh vast majority of people buying a processor dont know shit about what they're buying.

Re: EU Slaps Intel

agreed avo. Your previous post makes sense as well.

Re: EU Slaps Intel

but AMD are crap.......

Re: EU Slaps Intel

right now, AMD's Phenom II are the best choice for a gaming computer. AMD also make processors that are superior in some super computers and mobile devices...
