Because without a federal government, quality of life would improve immensely. Basically it would mean that the group of assholes enforcing compromises on the states and telling people how to live would be out of a job. Utah can be as crazy as it wants, Texas can buy as many weapons as it wants, and California can smoke whatever it wants.

Obviously flint doesn't know much about Texas politics. Texas republicans (at least on the state level) are far more moderate than you were lead to believe flint. Even the ones who are more conservative than most still keep their heads on straight and don't try to impose their will on others. Many of them were opposed to many of President Bush's policies, which earns my mark of respect and is why I voted for several of them.

Right now in Texas the big fight is going to be between the far conservative Rick Perry and more moderate conservative Kay Baily Hutchison. Hutchison is the favorite to win ATM which is why Perry is running around like a headless chicken ATM talking about succession.
