they don't have political parties. That's a criminal act. Everybody has to belong to the Commie party, and they have to report to a block captain as to how good a commie they are. the block capitan comes into their home and does a progress report with them every week. if you piss him off you are punished with less food coupons, you can lose your job, and if you actually try to oppose castro you go to jail. it's moderate in that they don't have 10% of the population being paid informers to the Secret police (E Germany) or kill 40% of their population (kampuchea) or beat priests to death (Poland) or put all kids into orphanages (romania, mao's china) so I guess it's "progressive" communism. but it still sucks.
the US called many dictators around the world "close friends" during the past (e. g. Saddam Hussein, Pinochet, Batista) as long as they were useful. those guys killed thousands of democrats and critics of their regimes. so the argument of communism and the lack of a democratic party system does not help.
the people in cuba feel as to be under siege by the US for more than 40 years. so they are united behind castro and his regime. without the embargo the regime loses their best argument to rule alone for the "best" interests of the people. give capitalism a chance and the political face of cuba will change over time.
"can't argue that! looky what it did for Pinochet's Argentina. And BOY!!! Are they grateful!"
Pinochet was chili. I think you mean Per
Hmm yeah...
We did back the argentine junta too..not Peron
They attacked a NATO power
I wonder what they teach kids about that btw
And I meant avoiding cuba was a moral plus
And yeah, steal from European investors and pay us back

Like i said a very good start ![]()
The goal of U.S. policy toward Cuba should be to support the emergence of a Cuban state where the Cuban people determine the political and economic future of their country through democratic means. A great lesson of democracy is that it cannot be imposed; it must come from within. Our policy should encompass the political, economic and diplomatic tools that are needed to help the Cuban people find the political space that is essential to engage in and direct the politics of their country.A policy of constructive and critical engagement--while having as a goal evolution to a peaceful and democratic Cuba--does not promise an overnight metamorphosis. It is a process, a pathway with various detours and obstacles that over time arrives at its destination. It will take Cuban cooperation to achieve a real improvement in relations, but we should not publicly link the initiatives to specific actions of the Cuban government. Doing so would give the Cuban hierarchy a veto over our policy. Rather, the United States should act on its assessment of internal developments on the island and how best to advance a democratic Cuba.

This is to be achieved by shaking hands and trading with thugs who stole Cuba and oppress its people?
I don't want Cuban goods. I refuse to buy slave labor. Cuba is not open to a "policy of constructive and critical engagement." Cuba is not open to the goal of "evolution to a peaceful and democratic Cuba."
Wow someone's motivated by political principles rather than pragmatism. That's what's wrong with the world today. "You don't satisfy our beliefs. Therefore no business with you!"
the problem with cuba is the fault of cubans and can only be fixed by cubans. Cuba has alot of room to grow economically very cheaply, which would attract alot of investment if companies werent afraid of loosing their investments to Cuba's government. Make it friendly for businesses and the US will have no choice but to lift the embargo, and there will be money pouring into the country.
Well, if Cuba's market opened it would pwn the economy of some Caribbean islands allied to the US.
You're right, I need to defend my value-based decision of not supporting slavery by purchasing the products it produces. Imagine how horrible the world would be if no one made slavery profitable!

I purchase products from slave labor (Nike) all the time, and without a second thought. The only people who care are people with a hyperactive and misfired empathy. In fact, it should be considered a psychological illness, and sadly a lot of liberals have it.
you have a psychological illness for paying the extra money for "nike" brand shoes.

...
Brands = Status
Status = Power
Power = Get laid free card
hahaha
For your information, in case it takes you a few years before you reach a basic sociology course:
The wealthy do not wear brand labels like signs. Eeeeeeeeever. Only poor idiots dumb enough to embrace the marketing that targets poor idiots do. The more you know. ![]()
Now if you are targetting poor idiots who are similarly indoctrinated to think that cheap brand names = status, then I suppose it might get you those whores. Watch out for herpes though. And the HIV. And a host of other infections such whores will share with you. If you ever succeed in your quest to get laid by trash. ![]()

lol That's not true. The wealthy wear and use the most expensive things of all. From Viking kitchen appliances, to plasma HD TV screens, mercedes and lexus cars, dolce and gabana clothes, gucci bags, etc. etc.
The most expensive things do not have brand labels like vegas signs. Ever. People who know what's what know that their shit is mad expensive because they know the expensive brands. Nike is NOT expensive and does NOT show status. I guess if you count like "I'm not AS poor as it gets, I'm 1 tier higher!" as status it does.
i wouldnt know, justinian; my giant dick is the only get laid free card i ever use ![]()
nike brand shoes though? that seems like a bit of a stretch ![]()

In da ghetto
While identifications of status and power vary in different cultures, a man's breadth and value of sexual options depend on his control of resources and status.
Trying to be that analytical about sex just means you'll never be any good at it. ![]()
And I'm sure you have evidence of that...
Seeing the world mechanically is a matter of strategy, not a limitation of the human experience.
