Topic: No more free press

Free press means:

1. Manufacturing an asinine and frivolous issue to gain popular attention, like gay marriage.
2. Reporters don't report the news, they exaggerate and twist it to the extent that it is indistinguishable from a soap opera.
3. Maggot reporters disseminate frivolous information that appeal to people's sensitivities at considerable cost to business, like Bill Clinton's affair, Newt Gingrich and his many affairs, and a power plant that displaces native people.

So I say, no more freedom of the press. Let the government regulate it. The worst a government can do, like an elaborate nazi propaganda machine, is still preferable to the circus we have now that socially engineers people to be sensitive wimps.

I say get rid of the press altogether. Ban it from TV, Radio, and other forms
of media -- and just leave government-sponsored-but-opposition-OK'd-RSS-feeds.

No bullshit, just news and raw numbers.

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

Let's compeltely ignore the good the press actually does and point out the things we dislike about it.  Good thing we are not trying to fairly judge the usefulness of the press in any form or fashion.

And IA... when your alternative is Nazi style anything you should know your in the wrong.

lol. While I rate Nazis low, I rate "fight injustice" and "equality!" liberal nutjobs lower. And I think a Nazi propaganda machine is pretty unlikely.

Otherwise, the press does very little good. Its bad far outweighs its good.

Have you even thought about this issue for 5 seconds? Yeah the media is a circus because the population is hundreds of millions of willfully-ignorant "promise me more stuff than your competition and I'll vote for you" bums. Your alternative is state-run media? Yeah, that'll see 0 improvement and even less real information.

sKoE's lack of an education is a fine example of how giving the RIGHT "news" and "raw numbers" can make an ignorant viewer not only convinced that he knows the right position, but SURE of it because he knows HIS position is based on NEWS and RAW NUMBERS!

Well you're right, I don't have a well thought out solution. I'm a good example of a slacker. But I like my solution better than the way it is now, although I recognize some people really hate it, and that's fine.. Nonetheless, I hate the way that the media presently behaves.

Well, I consider the parasitic elite like unions and media to be worse than the political elite.

I rate the elites like this.

Big Business elites.
Political elites.
Parasitic elites.

None of them are very good, but giving the media to #2 sounds so much better smile.

If it was Goverment controlled then how do we know that the Goverment is telling us the truth?

With free press atleast we can make our own judgement on what is going on after we are given several differant accounts rather than the one the Goverment would be giving us wink Though the media need to take more responsibilty for what they report. I think tighter mesaures should be inplace i mean the media have been known to go on "hate" campaigns against political figures and this should be regulated  i mean if the media prints a story without having any kind of evidence to back it up instead of just having to pay fines. People should be getting sacked and none of this silly backpage apology. They print a story that makes frontpage for weeks and then after a ruling from some court they pay the fine and print a little note saying they are sorry.. Mistakes need to be sorted out and the Goverment needs to take a tougher line on this

Of course they work together, because cooperation and passive aggression are less costly. But for me personally, I would like the media and union elites eliminated from power. Yes it will open a power vacuum that those others will fill, but I'll be better off, even if it's just a little.

Because you can purchase the reporting of anyone or any service offering it. If you are dissatisfied you can become a reporter and/or start a news service. People can use their purchasing/reading/viewing power to put corrupt and dishonest news agencies out of business and support those who offer real reporting.

Um... No, you won't? At least now there is a separation of power among more people. It leaves more room for real reporters to do real reporting--The political elite do not have direct or actual control of the media, just the support of most of it. Giving ALL power to the political elite without room for competition is just ridiculous. I refuse to believe that you've read your posts in this thread sober.
