Topic: Obama exempts CIA 'torture' staff

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8003537.stm

What do u guys think about this? I think its a very good move by Obama as the people who carried out these acts were legally allowed to by a higher authority. The person that should be prosecuted should be Mr Bush for allowing these things to happen which is a serious breach of international law.

"That leaves open the possibility that those lawyers who crafted the legal opinions authorising the techniques, one of whom is now a federal judge, could yet face legal action"

I think that all of the lawyers involved should be chased up and they should be not be allowed to work in law. And also that CIA agents who acted outside the boundaries laid out in the memos should face jail time

the Nazis always said the same: It was Hitler! I had to kill/torture/rape/..., because it was an order.

Read back on exactly what i said wink Without bringing Bush to justice then how can they bring people following his orders to justice? It just doesnt work the guy who issues the orders gets off free but the people that followed orders are going DOWN.. Somehow i think not

I think thats a load of shit.

People love to believe in an organisation or system greater
then they are. There are theories on this (such as the third
wave[0] and various other psychology tests).

I also think that everyone has a free mind and should be able to judge what is wrong and what is right if they cannot they should not be working for the CIA. I think they should be brought to justice but only if the current administration is willing to prosecute certain leading members of the previous administration. If not i do not think it is worthwhile to follow it up.

And also that CIA agents who acted outside the boundaries laid out in the memos should face jail time

They feel the fall wrath of the justice system wink

Torture shmorture

When I point out we do these things to our own troops I am told the context is all important

Then it aint torture

If I sever an arm with a chainsaw while you watch, context goes out the window

Oh, foriegn committees don't agree? So what?

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Re: Obama exempts CIA 'torture' staff

I agree with obama's decision. Obviously it was a terrible thing that went on but placing blame and pointing fingers isn't going to get us anywhere in the end. The best thing to do is to move on. Bush is the one who should be held responsible but seeing as how he's not going to be jailed or anything...

Let it go.
