Well actually I don't like it, because when you send a President who wants to make a difference in the next four years against some tinhorn dictator for life who can say No forever, the only way to "move the process" is for democracy to grab the ankles

Re: North Korea restarting its nuclear program

Bush fucked it up, not Obama. 2002 Bush had three options: stopping Iran and their nuclear program, stopping North-Korea and their nuclear program, or attack Iraq with no nuclear program. back than the North-Koreans had no nuclear weapons. he could have told the chinese, that an insane dictator with nuclear weapons is not a good idea and that the US would now bomb the north-korean nuclear facilities, even in danger of an all out second korean war. now the north koreas have nuclear weapons and the rocket system to reach the US. would he now bomb north korea, they would retaliate with an nuclear strike on Japan or south korea. Obama has no good cards left in that game, because Bush lost them all in his administration.

Re: North Korea restarting its nuclear program

There's one good option.  Putting anti-ballistic missile systems in Japan and Korea and placing stealth bombers in the region so that if we decide to attack, or if they decide to launch, we can intercept their missiles, then take down their missile silos to prevent second launches.

Oh wait, we've done both of these.  No biggie, then!  Lock and load!

Huh?

The North Koreans have a dud rocket that doesn't work and
inefficient nuclear technology that probably doesn't work either.

Anti-ballistic missile tech wont stop all, or even most, of the
missiles thrown by the north. In the event of war, the north
will use *everything* it has.

Yes, war is ugly. The north has very few cards at
its disposal...war is pretty much the only one.

If you can make me look like a complete idiot, please
do. It'll help form my ideals and will actually force me
not to troll tongue.

The north did the right thing about rejecting the food
aid: The U.S. now has no leverage. If the north had
of said they were restarting their nuclear program
whilst receiving aid, the U.S. would have sharply turned
around and taken the aid away.

Attacking the north would be devestating for the people and
economy of the south, not to mention the millions of dead. Most
people killed will be in Korea, but there will be some damage and
death done to Japan too...

At which point a war will break out. The war would only end with
the south invading the north (The south and the U.S. wouldn't
accept a north Korea victory).

You think Obama would have taken out NK if he was president in 2002? Remember it was Bush who did negotiate with the Chinese and did get North Korea to stop their nuclear program but now under Obama NK has restarted it.

Obama could right now take out Iran or at least let the israelis do it and instead he is going to deny them use of Iraqi airspace. And before you get going the USAF controls iraqi airspace and takes orders from Obama. I think Israel will do it without permission if they have to but I wonder if Obama would go as far as firing on IAF planes.

What do you mean they have very few card? What about reform? What about accepting our offers of food and oil in return for not pursuing nuclear technology? That seems like a reasonable offer but they rejected it. NK provokes these things. The war has been over for over 50 years the paranoia and incredible mistrust in NKs leadership is caused by a single individual and this is not the fault of the US. Our relations with Vietnam are far better than with NK now because Vietnam is not run by a psycho and we did far worse things there than we ever did in NK.

Re: North Korea restarting its nuclear program

not really.Quote wikipedia:

The bombing of cities and villages in North Korea and partially in South Korea was absolutely comparable to that having occurred in Germany and Japan during World War 2. Remarkable is the fact that napalm was used widely for the first time. On August 12 1950 the US Air Force dropped 625 tons of bombs on North Korea. Two weeks later, the daily load amounted to about 800 tons. 18 of North Korea's cities were more than 50% destroyed. General William Dean, who had been in North Korean captivity, reported that most of the North Korean cities and villages he had seen were in ruins or were simply snow-covered wastelands"

Re: North Korea restarting its nuclear program

North Korea built the bomb under Clinton, and was in constant violation immediately after they promised Madeline Albright they'd quit for payola.

So you are using examples of things we did during war to two countries who are today friendly and benefit greatly from their relation with the US and use this as an example to rebut my point that NK's paranoia and mistrust of the west after the war is unusual and not justifiable today? This is a strange train of thought you have going here.
