I wish I was here during the elections. If there wasn't a Biden vs Palin thread I certainly would have started one.

I would say that we were yearning more for meaningful contributions and foriegn (amoungst other) policies, not yearning to be "led" as such.

This is purely a protocol matter and there are some things you should rather not do because of a protocol. Often protocol is put in place so that everyone understands what to do and to not offend anyone. You might say, well obama was not offending anyone but obviously he has... he offended plenty of ppl here in the US like BW and flint. If no other head of state bows to the saudi king then why should mr. obama?

we elected him so he should do what we say... If he wants to show respect to the saudi king when he is on vacation or when he is out of office he can do that. He should follow proper protocol for a top level official meeting.

There is no "We" because not everyone is going to agree. The same way that if he does bow or does bow, he's going to offend or not offend people. I elected him because I felt he would be able to reach out to other nations and develop strong international ties. So far so good.

Basically my point is that how extreme or small the gesture is in the eye of the beholder and the masses will never agree 100%. So in the end, he can do whatever he likes despite whatever some other person chooses to do or has done before. This whole discussion is stupid =p

Because the US has strong ties with the english and not with the Saudi's. At the end of the day its like shaking someones hand and then waving at someone else. It makes little differance if his bow was slightly lower atleast he was showing respect. 100% agree with Nolio about strong ties with other countries. The US does not have the best image outside of America and i think Barack Obama is very much extending the hand of friendship and not the iron fist of the Bush era If in a few years time Barack Obama brings the world a step closer to world peace by showing respect for other people this discussion will be deemed worthless. But at the end of the day people like BW are just out to hate and if they dont see real mistakes being made by Obama they blow things that would be seen as "controversial" becuase he is the first guy to do it but you guys have to remember that isnt always a bad thing..

well Obama's aides have explained that he didn't bow at all, he merely bent double because king abdullah is so short.

Don't we all feel silly now that we know what really happened?  just because we saw the president stoop and bend in half as he grabbed the king's hand, we just ASSUMED he was bowing.

you guys will just defend Obama no matter what.

it is not a tradition for a leader of one nation to bow towards another leader unless he's surrendering to him.  and there is no way in hell Obama would of been arrested for not bowing to the King. attempting to capture the leader of another country is clearly an act of war.
