Topic: When did this happen?
Ok I have a question, could someone please tell me when it became politically incorrect to call a spade a !@#$%^& SPADE. I understand not wanting to offend people but saying, "A black man walked by the door." is neither racist nore offensive. Neither is it racist or offensive to suspect someone of a crime simply because they happen to be a minority.
In my area of the college I attend there is a lot of expensive computer equipment. Yesterday I saw a gentleman I had not seen before, and we're a fairly secluded area where there isn't a lot of coming and going so red flags came up, walking through the halls and I thought he looked suspicious; they way he carried himself and constantly glanced around spoke to me of ill intent. So I go back to my class and say, "Keep an eye out there's someone wandering around and they look like they might steal something." I was then asked to describe the individual and I began, "He's about my height, dark brown hair, skinny, brown skin..." And immediately I'm accused of being racist and stereotyping the guy. I then had to endure an hour of being lectured on political correctness and anti-racism by the WHITE people in my class. There are 3 brown skinned people, 1 hispanic, and 1 oriental in my program and not one of them had a problem. They were trying to call over the people lecturing me to get the rest of the description.
We need to stop and seriously evaluate what is politically incorrect. If I ever start accusing every non-white person of looking suspicious fine call me a racist, but it is not racist to recognize that an individual is a certain colour. I will never be upset because I'm describe as a 5'8", dark haired, fat, white guy. I'm actually gonna experiment with this in a few days and get back I'm going to say there's someone suspicious in the area and describe everything and the LAST detail will be the colour of their skin and see if I get the same reaction.
