"DINNNNNNNNNNG!" The sound of a bell ringing echoed through the almost deserted pub on the outskirts of town.

"Drink up gents! Closing time!" the busty barmaid yelled from behind the counter. She looked around and noticed a few of the regulars pull their coats on and slowly make their way out into the cold night. It was her birthday and working a 12 hour shift on her own wasn't her idea of the best way to celebrate. She just wanted to get home. The barmaid grabbed a rag and started collecting glasses whilst cleaning up the recently vacated tables.

As she made her way around towards the last few tables, she noticed a group of people huddled in one of the back booths. She was sure she didn't notice them come in and even if they did, they hadn't bought any drinks. She placed the pint glasses in her hands on top of the bar and made her way to the table, sighing loudly.

Approaching the table, she slowed her pace as she picked up pieces of the conversation.

".... town square.... take the gun.... tonight... kill... blood... make sure... no witnesses...."

On hearing those words, the barmaid stepped backwards slowly as quietly as she could. Kill? Blood? Gun? She yelped as one of them stood up and turned on her suddenly. "How long have you been listening?" the man said. His voice as rough and edgy as his face.

"Umm... no, nothing" she laughed nervously. "I've just popped over to say we're closing up" and pointed towards the door. "Everyone else has gone."

The man turned to the table and said "Remember what I said. Let this be a lesson to you mafiosa." He reached into his long black trenchcoat, pulled out a dark revolver and aimed it. The silencer stared right into the face of the barmaid. She screamed as she comically put her hands up. "Take no unnecessary risks" he stated as he pulled the trigger. A muted shot hit the birthday girl in the centre of the forehead and she tumbled to the ground.

"Let's go. We have work to do. It starts tonight." The man stepped over the limp body and made his way towards the door. "Do what you want to the body. Cut it up, eat it, throw it in the river. I don't care - just get rid of it." The girl's open lifeless eyes stared back at the Godfather as he disappeared into the night. Blood ran from the single bullet wound in her head, making a dark puddle of crimson liquid gather on the floorboards of the Tarona Arms.

In the town park, a single man sat near the pond. He observed the ducks with a strange look in his eyes. A look of bloodlust. When one of the ducks came closer, the man grabbed it by its neck. A split second later, the duck went silent and the man threw the lifeless animal away. He sighed while doing so, these killings of small animals had long lost its thrills. He needed more to satisfy his lust for blood. As he strolled back to the streets, he heard someone coughing in the bushes. Approaching the sound, he saw a beggar who'd made the bush into his bed for the night. He seemed half-drunk, half-asleep so he didn't notice the killer's presence before it was too late. Without a second thought, the killer picked up a large rock from the ground and beat the begger on the head with it. A few hits later, all that remained of the beggar's head was a bloody pulp. Satisfied with his kill, the killer went back home. He'd found a new thrill, the next step in his lust for blood. From now on, he'd kill people.

The sheriff cursed and grabbed another donut. He couldn't believe his luck. Signs of a mafia appeared in his town and not a single police force was able (or rather, willing) to send in reinforcements. Which meant he had to take on the mafia on his own. Downing his fifteenth cup of coffee, he decided to get to work. He had investigations to run. Plus, he was running out of donuts, so he'd need to run by the store later that night.

Arsy isn't immature enough to shun someone because he doesn't like them. I believe the stated reasons that the people picked to play are the ones who from experience have been the most active in the game. The game is a bit rubbish when no one talks . And it also says that if you applied and didn't get to play this time you will have preference next time (depending on your IRC activity then). Quit whining.
