Well, as is my understanding, this all came about because of "Bad Debt", which was caused in turn by frivolous money lending, and in some cases totally retarded money lending.

Not what I said. Here: "I'd be more gleeful but thanks to the past actions of certain Conservatives the UK is destined to wander into the same minefield."
Notice how I said >UK< and not whtever the hell it is you want me to have said?

You wrote the same thing, and Im asking the same question.

"Rampant Capitalism"   Explain that......Its your statement.
Explain to us JUST HOW it came to be that,  In your opinion and words "Bad Debt", which became "Frivolous money Lending".....  and well..."Retarded money lending"

Can you PLEASE explain all of this.

How did this "Debt" be it retarded or Frivolous or bad come to be ??

Re: dollar collapsing

Governments never repay their debt - they take new loans to repay previous ones. This is classical Ponzi scheme.

$2,000bn US debt to China will never be repaid, China knows it, US knows it, everybody knows it

I just wonder when  China is finally coming to its senses and stops throwing good money after bad $2,000bn

when that happens (soon after G20 i bet) US will have no choice but to collapse the Ponzi scheme of ever growing debt by printing $$ to buy its expiring bonds

Re: dollar collapsing

Wow... I can't believe you're getting this crabby over what was obviously a joke statement... What exactly are you hoping to prove? Other than the well known fact that I don't do Economics for good reason?

Partly idiotic mortgage lending, partly big banks taking the piss, toxic investments (Don't know what one of those is but they sound cool)... Mostly; Companies more powerful than governments... HRBS is so big now that the government HAS TO pump money into it to keep it afloat, without HRBS the entire economy of the country would collapse...
...idiotic situation...

Re: dollar collapsing

the govts go nuts about "whatever it takes to create growth and the jobs"

now eher is my 2 cents to reply:
1) what growth are they talking about ? nominal growth (when we sell one item at 10x price) or real growth (when we sell 10x more items at the same price as before)
Govts can't do the latter by printing money, all they do is the nominal growth which is BS from my point of view

2) with ever increasing productivity do we really need more jobs ? Imagine everything is so highly automated and in robotics mode that all cars we need for the next 10 years are produced by robots operated by a dozen of engeneers. Do we need to hire more engeneers to overproduce ? If you got a magic box that produces out of thin air every item you need is there any reason to work except for pleasure maybe ?
We do work to produce and enjoy the fruits, we do not work just for the purpose of paying taxes to our govts

So in all our leaders don't see and don't understand  what this crisis is about.

Re: dollar collapsing

As for Peace you must remember "A bad peace is worst than a good war".  Take Korea for example.  Former Pre. Carter and Former Pres. Clinton created the current situation in Korea with a bad peace.  As for the dollar.  This is a coordinated by the Dems (Commies) to destroy the financial institution of the U. S. and force more Government control which is against the Law of the land (Constitution).  Oh no, now the Government has written proof tha I meet 1 of their critiera for being ID'd as a gun toting, Constitution loving, Government bashing, Militia member, DOMESTIC TERRORIST.  The U. S. Constituation states "Congress is authorized to coin money" so your paper money is counterfiet anyway, and has as much value and leagal standing as Monopoly money.

Re: dollar collapsing

All of our economic problems are caused by the U. S. Government.  The Fed's have illegally confisicated lands to prevent us from drilling, hunting, and building ect.  The law (Constitution) states that the Fed. Gove is allowed to own ports and forts necessary for the defense of the nation, the seat of Govt. and the 10sq miles sorrounging it.  That the Whitehouse and Wachington D. C.  The Fed. Govt. has taken away States rights to make decisions concerning what to do with the land.  The Fed Govt. has taken control of our ED. system which is also against the constitution.  The Fed. has no authority given it in the Constitution concerning the education of the people exept to say that everyone has a right to become educated.  Again this is a State right that has been taken away.  There is much more and I would be happy  to continue but ou of time.

Re: dollar collapsing

With reference to BW's crock-theory that the Chinese NEED more than the $700B worth of U.S treasury bonds that they already own otherwise the yuan would be worthless - I know of no intelligent economist (the kind that are actually in the markets and make $$ aka Marc Faber, Jim Rogers, Soros...etc.) who think this is the case.

In fact the consensus among -profitable- investment talent is that if the Chinese were to remove the dollar peg and float the yuan completely, it would appreciate significantly against the U.S dollar. The world buys from China, it has strongly positive trade surpluses and is backed by massive foreign reserves - only an economic or investment amateur would believe such a country's currency has little or no worth. Good luck and better get on with your purchases of U.S treasury bonds soon as its obviously denominated in a strongly-backed currency.

Hillary Clinton has recently made a trip to China to convince them to effectively finance Obama's gargantuan stimulus plan using their reserves to continue buying the flood of U.S Treasury bills being issued. Personally I think U.S "industry" is a write-off (aka physical therapists, lawyers and financial derivative peddlers) and needs to be allowed to fail so that it can be started from scratch again.

China only has to write off its $700B and choose not to commit any more to what appears to be a failed investment.

Re: dollar collapsing

China isn't about to go buying US treasuries like it did in the past.  Not any more, it won't.  It'll be buying as few of them as is necessary to depreciate their currency. LOL, the irony!

Re: dollar collapsing

Float the Yuan completely.....

Then you say "it will appreciate significantly".....yea.....thats the point

But, then you say thats its backed by trade surplus and foreign reserves.......   Its what keeps it from inflating into the stratosphere.....yea?

Hillary was in China ?   to talk about a global currency maybe....like a good socialist ?

the point ... Tavius ... Is that you think the Yuan can support itself?

Why dont you back that up ??   What is it that make the Chinese Yuan such a stable Currency ?

I think you for sure are confusing a strong currency with one that appreciates.  A strong currency is one that is stable.

Yen, US Dollar, Euro and British Pound Sterling.

I would rather own a bucket of Ausie Dollars or maybe.....MAYBE even Canadian Dollars than Yuan.

But.... I will entertain your comments.
