Topic: Empire: Total War

So, who has it?  What do you think of it?  Are you encountering game crashes?

I've had the game for a week now and I am quite impressed by the game's mechanics.  I went through the Road to Independence campaign rather quick (it was like a mini-tutorial campaign).  I then started a Prussia grand campaign on Hard/Hard.  There were some tough moments, but the campaign's almost ended.  What I'm most curious by is some people complaining about bugs, game crashes, etc.  I've had no game crashes or lock-ups.

But yeah, fun game.  Has anyone played multiplayer yet?

But at least they'll be a few patches out by then.

My computer can't take it. Its specs exceed requirements on everything except processor speed. I need 2.4 ghz, but it only goes 2.26 ghz. I just bought this computer a few months ago too, and it's a specifically gaming laptop. Now it's already outdated, grrrr.

And btw, I found out Empire: Total War works on my comp. I downloaded the demo, and pwned the French fleet lol. The loading screen is a bit slow, although the battles run just fine. I'm going to get it. But man, the graphics are... amazing!

Loading screen takes awhile on the demo and (at least for me) it ran a little slower, too.

Dissapointed, I dont have the feeling I had in Rome total war and medival total war. But I guess this genre doesn't fit me thats why. Looking forward to starcraft 2 big_smile

Lol, the computer I got is actually an Asus. It's not as good as that one though.

It exceeds those requirements except for the processor speed.

I have

2.26 ghz duo processor
512 mhz of video memory/1024 mb of max memory.
4gb of ram
NVIDIA GeForce 9800m GS

Not as good as gaming desktops, but it's good.

Otherwise, I am able to run the demo despite being a little off on the processor minimum. It seems hella fun, it's 9/10, and the graphics are insane.

A Laptop is always outperformed by a desktop with the same specifics...
The laptop concept isn't designed for gaming and honestly, I think it's sort of a waste to use a laptop mainly for gaming tongue

then screw the whole ambient heat radiation and drop the fan.  Use a superconductive fiber that will transfer heat from inside an airtight case and radiate it into the air beyond. 

Of course the fiber might hit 800F and endanger the user and all bystanders, and being an efficient conductor there would be serious risk of frying your whole system with static electricity.

But if you weren't a jerk, why are you toting a laptop?

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.

I have a quad core AMD64 with 2x2GB ram sticks, an ATI X1950, etc. etc.
And my computer is outdated...;-).

Yeah it's interesting. I played it for a few hours. It's different from Rome and Medieval, but I'm getting the hang of it. It took me awhile to learn the diplomacy function. Seriously, as France, every country in Europe declared war on me. Then Savoy took Paris lol. I was like "WTF?"

Naval battles are sweet though, and you can research tech.

there was certainly a time when this was the case but I think it is exaggerated now; my current desktop is several years old already (at least 4 I think) and it could still run empire total war with some cpu capacity to spare, granted it probably had the best specs available in retail when it was bought but still...
