Well then the position of Iran's governemnt is at worst no different to before. Give him a chance and a bit of time and maybe Obama will be able to bridge the gap with Iran, maybe through diplomacy he will be able to encourage them to abandon their nuclear programme. Maybe statements like the internet broadcast will help the moderate elements of Iranian politics gain more support which in time will lead to the things you said such as freedom, democracy and improved human rights. However, within months of his time in office and days of this particular diplomatic effort it is a bit silly to judge the response when the West have been trying to win Iran around for quite some years. And I mean that in both senses i.e. lets not go over the top with praise but at the same time don't dismiss what he has done as being ineffective without giving him a chance. Just sit back and see what happens. Judge him one or two years after the start of his time in office in terms of progress or projected progress.
