My answer to those concerns is to catch all those diseases with mandatory prenatal testing and interrupt the unhealthy nonlife before it corrupts the human race. Because that whole "heal the sick" crap is Christer bigotry.  Does that satisfy you?

While you may have personaly issues with this use of excess embryos, I think it's good america lift the ban on funding it. It's a promising scientific advance, and I'm sure that we can all agree (after all, aren't american right wingers not in favour of freedom?) that having the freedom to fund it is a good thing..

Lol, you should check out the political/social conservative thread. It illustrates how divided conservatives are in America. On one hand you have the kind who would be better classified as "classical liberal," and on the other who are religious conservatives. If you have not noticed, Flint, BW, and Yell are strong religious conservatives. Though others like myself do not care about religious issues whatsoever. We also tend to champion reason and science, but unlike Euros, strongly value individualism and minimal government. The latter is often shared by religious conservatives, but they frequently go against it when religion is concerned.

I just don't think that religious conservatives have a proper claim on this matter though. It's about the freedom of funding stem cell research, so those who don't approve of it are not immediatly "dragged along into the sin".

1. Christians don't have a monopoly on healing others.
2. The argument against stem cell research is based on moral arguments of Christian origin.
3. You can practice your religion, but you may not impose your uniquely religious morals on the rest of the population without resistance.

If you wanted to say "we will not fund stem cell research because we don't approve of government spending on research," then that would be a different argument from what I was addressing. I was was addressing the Christian or moral argument against stem cell research, which Yell was at least partly defending. "the argument..." referred to that argument. I am not addressing Acolyte's argument at this time.

An embryo is not a human being by any means, as had this argument before. even you dont think what you're saying is true, because later on, you say that you think once they ahve a heart they're human. why not make it any other organ? why not say they're only human if they're white? why is giving the requirment of a heart any more legitimate? or why is giving any of the requirments you listed, breathe, circlatory system, consciousness, neurological function, and reproduction any more legitimate. if a scientist cuts the dick off an animal, the scientist doesnt say its no longer that animal. true with any of the other requirements.
