Topic: I met Richard Dawkins!

Yup. I attended his lecture, and saw him with my own eyes!

It was a real treat.

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

Everything he says in the movie has been said before a thousand times. He's not very impressive or enlightening. The man should've been preaching his reason during the 60's, when such beliefs were atleast controversial or able to cause some sort of shift in public thinking.

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

how about a summary of his beliefs?

Morbo: Morbo can't understand his teleprompter. He forgot how you say that letter that looks like a man with a hat.
Linda: It's a 't'. It goes "tuh".
Morbo: Hello, little man. I will destroy you!!

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

I do not think you have fulfilled the requirements to "meet" someone.

[I wish I could obey forum rules]

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

I was about to say "Poor Mr Dawkins" but as KWF has said, you didn't really meet him.

So my burn failed sad

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

Ok I exaggerated smile.

But he's a famous Brit in secular circles haha.

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

More people woulda heard about him if this was in Politics, plus then we could watch Flint launch into some insane gibberish.

Also, The Selfish Gene was boring.

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

I met Talulah Riley (no I had never heard of her either). I thought she was quite into me but I then found out she is engaged to someone worth $300m.

tweehonderd graden, dat is waarom ze me mr. fahrenheit noemen, ik reis aan de snelheid van het licht, ik ga een supersonische man van u maken

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

Shoulda hit that.

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

Please demonstrate, without reference to any God, why you should not be blown up by a suicide bomber.  There's a pretty recurrent heathen argument that if you construct a society weak enough to permit a suicide bomber to get to you, out of your own decadent frivolities, then you have it coming.
What justifies the total failure of Richard Dawkins to exist without the mercy of stronger, better animals?

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

Because any normative (ought or should) can not be empirically tested or demonstrated.

Re: I met Richard Dawkins!

Sure it could
blow Richard Dawkins up and see what comes of it

but I guess you disagree with his whole movie, which is about what is really going on in the human race and how it SHOULDN'T OUGHTA happen

I disapprove of killing most people (and I could be motivated to prevent a murder), but that does not mean I think they ought to live or ought not be killed.

But I also disapprove of the pyramid scheme of religion, and would like to see a world of rational humans. Ofc, that's also just wishful thinking.
