That's MS for you.
when u do that
theyl prolly say u reinstall xp to much so u need to get a whole new pc ![]()
then a microsoft popup will occur bringing u to the microsoft website and they selling pcs on it ![]()
is it original or a wookie?
original, i would say take dvd drive back sayin it screwed windows.
wookie, i would say, er, erm ...
its a legal copy
then you should still have your activation key
Did thhey keep the activation crap in vista?
I'm guessing it's a failsafe. Just reactivate and you'll be fine. It happened to me when I switched out my vid card so I can test out the new I bought for my new machine (the other parts hadn't come in yet), so after I switched them out, I had to reactivate. Needless to say, I wasn't too happy, but even IF you switched back, you still have to reactivate. Just go ahead and reactivate. If you can't through the internet, just go through the phone. It only take 6 minutes or so and that's only because you have to talk to a machine. :\ You don't need your serial key to reactivate, fyi.
Machine? Heh. Every time i've called Microsoft it has been a real person. Either that or i've been around machines too much...
In terms of support, i generally place Micro$oft better then most others. Particularly Australians ISPs and Telstra (Our lame, privatised telco).

It took me 15 minutes just to get through..
Hurrah for group licenses!
Hurrah for a 5-minute tweak to remove activation ![]()
If your pc locks you out, and you can't activate, try at the logon screen:
<WinKey>+U
On-screen keyboard
Help->About
Click on the URL in the About box
Now internet explorer opens, and you can use File->Open to open any file on your comp (except Explorer), or the address bar to browse the net.
Hurrah for piracy!
Microsoft Customer Service is sexy ![]()
When my comp died, I transferred my hard drive into my new comp so I could back up my files before switching to XP pro. I called them...and the first person told me they wouldn't be able to help because I wasn't licensed to use my OEM operating system in the new system.
But then I figured that one of those Indians had to have a heart...so I called up again and told the same story, and the second guy gave me the code ![]()
Now...Sony...there's some bad customer service for you ![]()
IBM has a great customer service (at least when I needed them a few years ago). Told them one of my DOS-disks was broken, so they showed me where I could download their newest version (the then innovating DOS 2000) of it for free!
