Topic: K'Naan - Troubadour

Who has heard the album?

It is politcally related, most his songs talk about struggle in this world, including one that mentions the Iraq war(People like me), violence in somalia( Somalia) and one about the Muslim faith and the struggles seen there(Fatima) and one about peace(waving flags) and one about uniting the world (dreamer).

Overall, I think he's one of the best artists ever and he's just getting started, true hip-hop, he's putting the message back in the genre.

I'm definitely going to buy the album to support him, especially since he's from my second hometown Toronto smile

I'd go as far as saying he's the next Bob Marley...and he's one of the very FEW artists who was allowed into the family's home studio (Bob Marley's studio home studio)...

What do you guys think about him?

Have you heard the latest album?

Never heard of him?

If you didn't know of him, definitely go and check him out the album is Troubadour.. I mentioned a couple of songs, the others are great too.

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

Never heard of the guy but I'm definitely gonna go and check it out

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

"Struggle" music, it pisses me off! It's so irrelevant to me as a Westerner, the only struggles I have are traffic jams and a bitchy manager! X(

Good for you, this music can let you see the other picture...

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

This needs to be moved to general...

Morbo: Morbo can't understand his teleprompter. He forgot how you say that letter that looks like a man with a hat.
Linda: It's a 't'. It goes "tuh".
Morbo: Hello, little man. I will destroy you!!

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

Like I said all his songs are to do with political issues...

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

All of his songs are irrelevant and gay... unless he sells in either the Middle East or The Admiral Duncan.

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

Yep...

music expressing the pain in the death of children, child soldiers, war, and the suffering in the world are gay and irrelevant

you don't have to waste your time to post in this thread Fokker

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

I agree with Fokker. And, who cares about the rest of the world? The West is a beacon of light and civilization, and I live in a Western country. So yay! What do I care about the rest of humanity who live in the darkness?

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

No everyone in the west is well off, no sickness, no pain in children, no fights between children, no abuse of children, no murders, no rapes nothing..right?

We're so blessed and perfect..

It's only you who is blind to the truth because you have never experienced it...be thankful to God for every second you live in your "perfect" world

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

I could have sworn I posted a link to Public Enemy "Can't Trust It" in here, where did it go?

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

The album is pretty good Glad, thanks

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

To me and my corner of the world, yes. Sorry you can't handle the fact that none of those things are happening here, but I'll tell you what: When Flint's prophecy about how the world will descent into anarchy and chaos (once America falls into civil war) comes true, and Britain is a shit-pit of fear, hate, and death, I will immediately buy this album (which you apparently love like a daughter) and enjoy it's relevance.
Assuming I'm alive.

> you don't have to waste your time to post in this thread Fokker <

So just because you hate the fact that I cannot connect with this album (because my life is free of shit) you think my entry into this discussion should be prohibited? And that is my fault why? tongue

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

The funny part is that the kids posting about how empathetic they are all are online in countries far above the struggles they think they understand.

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

Until you understand that we all have suffered at some point in life, and to correlate with the people in need now, you only need to enhance the despair and lifelessness you felt then. Depending on how shitty it was you might need to try hard.

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

Yeah, I bet a suburban kid who's full of anxiety over highschool kids and highschool kid stuff just needs to enhance his despair and lifelessness to understand what it's like to live in poverty, in a nation where the laws he takes for granted do not protect him and his family from bad things and bad people, where the only authority that keeps order in his native land is one of those bad things made up of bad people! I bet the suburban kid understands what it's like to really see no light at the end of the tunnel. Because the suburban kid really understands that sort of hopelessness. He's seen unjust laws maim and kill. He's lost family. Yeah I bet he'll cry me a river.

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

i should of expected this lvl of shallowness from Gladiator, damn my optimism making me waste too much time listening to some crappy artist.

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

avogadro convinced me to watch it. Oh my god it was awful.

Re: K'Naan - Troubadour

"So just because you hate the fact that I cannot connect with this album (because my life is free of shit)"

LOL!

I'd LOVE to be you if your life is so perfect smile

"The funny part is that the kids posting about how empathetic they are all are online in countries far above the struggles they think they understand."

Actually, I've lived 3 years of my life in such a country, my parents have lived most their lives in such a country and most of my relatives haven't ever stepped out such a country, so I very much know the struggle of my parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and feel blessed to have been given the opportunities I've been given.

Avo, like always, you don't know what you're saying. Shallowness? Just because I'm posting about an upcoming artist from my second hometown who has actually been able to put the meaning back into the genre of music I've grown up with?

+1

BTW, in any art whether it be literature, music or visual art, there is always a literal meaning and then there is a greater, underlying meaning. It's pretty much impossible for you not to relate to any of the themes of the CD unless your life is a 100% perfect, which is simply not possible.
