/me slaps Kadaj

Sorry man, Trivium don't quite cut it, not very impressive live either.
Just like these bands: I Killed The Prom Queen, Funeral For A Friend, As I Lay Dying, AFI and well.. I guess you catch my drift?
All sh!t.

But this wouldn't be the Rock Metal and Necro Thread if it was filled with emo..

"foo fighters r also another great band"
Dave Grohl killed Kurt Cobain!
Obviously.

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

the only thing I find impressive about trivium is their guitarists, after that, everything else can go out the window.

and yes your list of emo bands can lick my left testicle, but seriously, so can rhcp!

I just saw uhm... In Flames with cradle of filth and Megadeth, that was a wicked line up, show and moshpit, I got a pretty bad concussion and missed 1/2 of megadeth though.

Nice one, does sound like a primo line up. Bummer about your concussion though.. but hey.. its Metal!

extreme, I don't care if she snorts enough to kill a herd of elephants, that's not how I rate music. tongue

And pfft, Trivium. Amusing live performance, but kind of boring after a while.

I'd also like to state that it saddens me how in this thread you guys rate Metal by means of concussions and such, rather than the musical components.

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

....i saw Trivium at the "Black Crusade" tour in London....i honestly thought they sounded like a two-bit Metallica tribute act to warm up the early arrivals....at least Arch Enemy and Machine Head were there to stop me topping myself with boredom

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

Lloyd, you totally took what I said out of context. It was a wicked show, even though I got a concussion. Not because I got one, put down the drugs and read it again.

I resent the implication of drugs, also I was actually referring to "Bummer about your concussion though.. but hey.. its Metal!" more than what you said. Also, bite me.

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

I wish, it's been years since I last went to a festival... Last one was Reading @ 00 or 01. I watched those satisfy my craving, kind of like a nictotine patch.

Napalm Death rules all.
__________

When I was about eight or nine I was watching the John Peel show with my step father and mother when he introduced this new band called Napalm Death. Mum gasped "Good GOD!" Dad said "That's NOT music." and I said "I like it".
For my birthday I was force-fed Bon Jovi. X(
I think that broke me in some way because from that moment onwards I have been on an odd musical mission to find the most extreme music I can find, which has lead me through Death and Black metal to the likes of the 'Thrakh, and through electronic stuff to the likes of Venetian Snares, Speedranch, Whitehouse... even some hardcore (sorry).

"I'd also like to state that it saddens me how in this thread you guys rate Metal by means of concussions and such, rather than the musical components."

God.. I dont rate music by concussions and stuff lol. If you go to a mosh pit, be prepared for the possibility of injury. My god Lloyd, you got it all wrong man, I like AW's music man, not because she does drugs I dont know why you thought otherwise. The fact that she does drugs and has tattoo's and a 'screw you I do what I want' lifestyle just adds to her publicity.
If he hadn't got a concussion, In Flames, Megadeth and CoF would still be a kick ass concert. Where does me rating that concert (from an entirely different continent, let alone on the internet lol) get its basis from concussions and 'such'?

Metal for metal's sake man.

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

Do you guys get into much "stoner/experimental/epic" metal? e.g. Isis, Pelican, Neurosis, Mouth Of The Architect etc.?
I really enjoy it actually, especially Isis and Neurosis. The technicality of some of the drumming is amazing, if it was bout 100 times faster they'd be Joey Jordison lol (maybe not..). And these bands use of dual/triple guitar harmonics, dual key signatures and relatively undefined song structure make listening easy. Vocals are not a major player (Pelican is exclusively instrumental) and act more like another backing instrument instead of controlling the direction of the song.
Anyway, if you haven't given these guys a listen here's some vids:

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

Oh yea, Kyuss? you heard them? pre-QOTSA also any other side projects of their's, Ten East being one purely instrumental but still very cool. Pink Floyd are the best band in the world.
Portishead are also very cool, and have an interesting story if you know it?

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

....@ extreme

what story (re: portishead)?

and yes i like Kyuss as well....but not as "smooth" as QOTSA (my opinion)

also System of a Down rock as well....bit mad though in places tongue

This is awesome I think, 'Mr.crowley' Ozbourne and Wylde:

although his voice doesn't seem to be loud enough/ have enough strength, could give away more energy.

ALSO it tickles your ears!

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

@Cannabytes,
Well they were all just studio musicians who happened to be at a recording studio at the same time for various purposes. Then someone had the idea of having a jam and 'lo and behold Portishead was formed, out of a bunch of random musicians.

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

Hmyea diary of a madmans good, I also like the stoner metal list, thought stoner metal was more like 'sun-O^^' though, and that (or the song I know) was rather just bit lame and slow repititive.

Sunn O))) is nowhere near Stoner =/
They're Drone/Doom and it's a completely different genre (not to mention bloody brilliant)

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

ohyea 't was spelled with the ))), haven't listened much to them though and was like 2-3 years ago, found that it sounded a bit like 'elictric wizard' I think if I'm not mistaken which I had got labeled stoner metal dunno if that one is.

although, I got one of that bands songs open now and it sounds better then the one I had, cause one i had was just 3 'doomy' dark chords repeated real slowly only, this one has got a second guitar and it's got more rhythm, although dunno yet if it's something I'd listen to masively.

edit: and lol, tried looking for sun O))) and found this:
