This is just wrong in so many ways IMO. Course I'm not surprised. We're practically paying people to switch to DTV. Though in Japan their actually giving people coupons for new TV's completely, or at least they were planning to at least (hey I'll take that deal! Do you blame me? ^.^).

I'm sure the budget for this program is probably pretty small, but it's all the small things that cause load of wasteful spending. I'm also not sure if this is state or fed funded (probably state).

Re: ROFL @ Free Cellphones

We have these commercials in Florida, as well. Apparently it is in partnership with TracFone, a well-known provider of prepaid cellphones. If you're on Food Stamps, Medicaid, and/or have a family income under $26,000 annually, you are almost guaranteed to qualify. I was not aware this is a taxpayer funded venture, but I wouldn't be surprised nonetheless.

Re: ROFL @ Free Cellphones

it has to be government funded. It's similar to the Lite-Up-Texas program here to help people with their utility bills. They use state funds to help those in need with their utilities (which is alright IMO). But this cellphone crap is going a little overboard IMO.
