Let people engage in a harmless trade if they want.

The only reason it's illegal in the US is because idiots don't understand that trafficking and pimping are separate things from prostitution. Prostitution may involve pimping and trafficking, but they are not essential to it. These contemptible things may be common in low-scale prostitution where intercourse may cost $20-40, but it isn't so common in medium - upscale prostitution where intercourse will cost at least $150-$200. Nonetheless, the point is that these bad things are not essential to prostitution, and secondly it doesn't help to stop it when the trade is illegal. It's like arguing that alcohol should be banned because of a few idiots. Then when it's illegal, argue it should remain illegal because of the crime associated with it.

While pimps and traffickers should go to jail, there is no reason why seeing a medium - expensive call girl should be a crime. Moreover, there is absolutely no reason why a guy should fear going to jail for offering a woman to engage in prostitution. Hell, pairs (dating and marriage) and prostitution are basically the same

And lastly, who gives a crap about sexual morality other than crazy christian nutjobs who think these women are psychologically disturbed? Yeah these organizations may show that a person coerced in to prostitution isn't psychologically healthy, but that doesn't mean prostitutes shouldn't be allowed to engage in the trade if it's their free choice.

Agreed. And the arguments against it are illogical nonsense. They bring up trafficking and pimps, and it's idiotic because for the reasons I mentioned in the op.

The great myth of this generation is "safe sex." People talk about "safe sex" being sex not resulting in pregnancy or the transmission of STDs. Sex is necessarily giving oneself away. Those who engage in sex while withholding part of themselves, such as prostitutes, have been documented time and time again to have psychological damage as a result. They cannot make the connections that are vital to human beings in the world.

I'm a libertarian; I believe you have every right to be whores and whoremongers. I do not support laws against prostitution. But let's be honest. This is not a noble or principled crusade against oppression. This is a fight for a debasing [poof] for animals who cannot gain its pleasure without payment. It is beneath a human being's dignity to give oneself away.

Well if your screwing anyone unprotected your highly chances are getting chlamydiae, followed by HPV, Herpes, Hep. Infact i'm willing to say around 60-70% of ppl with chlamydiae don't even know they have it, same or if not more in the case of HPV since females show no signs of it unless they develop cervical cancer.

I totally agree lol, which is the reason #1 i don't screw hookers, #2 my motto is "1 at a time" thus i don't cheat on the female i'm with, and #3 myself and my mate getting STD/HIV check-ups atleast 3x a year smile

Well good to know you support freedom.

But those documented cases of psychological damage, or at least the ones I've seen, do not do a good job with separating the variables. They include women who have pimps or may experience social isolation and stigma from their line of work. I wonder this because humans aren't monogamous, and some societies do just fine with extra pairings when there are favorable circumstances.

Furthermore, I don't feel "bad" for being promiscuous. I see it as artful recreation.

Hey, you can feel stuff using a condom. The Japanese Kimono ones are thin enough. Sure it's not like sex is without a condom, but it's nice to have one around when there's uncertainty involved.

As for cancer from birth control, a risk as negligible as going to a tanning salon.

And HPV can get you cervical cancer, but most strains are harmless. 80% of women will have HPV in their life times.

Being promiscuous is fine in my eyes, it's your birth right. And btw unless you get the vaccine, once you get HPV you cant get rid of it, thus 100% have it their lifetimes wink

But to be fair, open networked promiscuity is dumb. It's fine to want variety, but you need to have a closed-network. Which is why closed-polyamory or swinging is the best way to go about it. Or in your case, serial monogamy is also safer.

I see absolutely no reason to completely outlaw prostitution. Actually, this forces illegal prostitution which results in more severe pimping, more STDs, more pregnancy, more girls getting raped or something going wrong, and just generally a lower living standard for the 'working girl'. By legalising the government also gets things like more $$$ from taxes and less costs (Such as cleaning up the streets).

Legalising prostitution wont absolish these things, but it will help -- and it will also help in preventing them.
