Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

Mortification, Barren Cross, Bloodgood, Narnia, Deliverance, Slechtvalk, Stryper, Virgin Black, Whitecross.
All great bands that I enjoy listening to every once in a while. But the one bands that comes out on top is DivineFire. They are (were since they recently quit) one of the best bands ever, their album "Hero" is a masterpiece that should keep you captivated from beginning to end.

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

I have never been a big fan of Christian music in any style or genre, but with Christian metal I can specifiy what the root of my problem is:

Music made by a person or group that is Christian in their belief I can listen to, and probably do listen to without knowing some of the time.

Music that is filled with Christian references, lessons, and teachings, or is simply ranting, I can not and do not listen to. This is not because of the Christianity but because of the lack of content, lack of variation, lack of imagination, and (dare I say it) lack of skill.

"Hey, new album?" (^o^)
"Yeah, they're a Christian band, pretty good stuff."
"Any decent songs?" (^_^)
"This one's about the crucifiction, but from Jesus' point of view."
"Cool." (^o^)
"Yeah, there's a strong message about forgiveness and understanding."
"I have to admit, if a bunch of Romans abused me for three days I wouldn't be thinking about that. What else?" (^_^)
"This one's about how Jesus is with us always, watching and listening."
"Makes him sound like a stalker..." (

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

Fokker, try listening to the lyrics that speak of strength, unity and belief that overpowers all. How can that not be beautiful?

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

....i agree i once went to a massive christian festival at aintree in liverpool with my brother (who was the christian)....i hated it....possibly the only festival i have been to that i actually left early and went home (at massive extra cost)....it was all too much but when a singer called martyn joseph started singing "dolphins make me cry" it was too much....my brother started to blare stryper from his boombox....to which my reply was morbid angel....his face when "your god is dead" was growling out....i will never judge others and/or others beliefs and i bow humbly with respect to those who do follow their god(s)....but i call it "rock-with-a-handbag"....i like my metal to make me feel anger, hatred, violent and other "real" emotions....not love, peace, togetherness and other "flowery" emotions....each to their own eh?

Strength, unity and belief that overpowers all? Sounds like every "satanic" album ever written. tongue
Look, when did I say I did not like such lyrics? I'll tell you when: nev0r!
To reitorate: My problem is that there are very few "christian" bands that put the music and the lyric first. Now don't feel discriminated against little ones, I have this same view of most "satanic" bands too; like Deicide, for example.

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

I'm sorry, I read this following:

"Music that is filled with Christian references, lessons, and teachings, or is simply ranting, I can not and do not listen to. This is not because of the Christianity but because of the lack of content, lack of variation, lack of imagination, and (dare I say it) lack of skill"

And I simply concluded from the way it's written that the topics of their songs bothered you a lot, because you apparently found the Christian content a lack of inspiration. I perfectly agree that lack of inspiration and originality is just as easily found in other metal genres and with other topics tongue
I for one find gore-bands could do with some more original lyrics and themes, and I'm a born sadist for god's sake.

I'll never know if it was worth the pain, but I still loved it more than anything in the world - it was my life.

Gore? Like "Mortician"?

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

Bah, Mortician. The Metal-equivalent of a boring pig with a lethal lung disease and a clogged nose, utilising a highly unoriginal drum machine. Not my cup of tea, them.

I especially hate the names of the bands, so bleepin' morbid

"I especially hate the names of the bands, so bleepin' morbid"

....but surely each genre of music is accompanied by it's own style of band-name....for instance if you see an album called "Altars of Madness" by a band called "Morbid Angel" you could pretty much tell (as a novice) it would not make an ideal christmas/birthday present for your little daughter/son....unless like me you are blessed with three children whom all love metal (my 12yr daughter likes Marilyn Manson, Paramore, In This Moment and the likes....my 8yr son loves Slipknot, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Carcass, and the heavier end of the genre and my 5yr son likes Slipknot, Megadeth, Anaan Nathrakh!)....and i am eclectic so i play a very wide choice of music (i love opera, classical and even The Prodigy) so they get to choose from a massive collection of cd's/mp3's i have collected over many years....so the names act as a kind of "guide" to the newer converts to the music....and what is so important about the name anyway?

i prefer metal without the death
Iron maiden and sabbath and so on, they are still metal, not hard rock, I don't like to completely overrun the whole genre with death metal

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

I daresay being eclectic is more than naming only opera/classical and The Prodigy tongue
Either way, it's been a long time since I've listened to a lot of Death Metal.
The occasional Dark Tranquillity song did come up, but I've mainly been listening to Drone/Doom stuff -especially Sunn O)))- and Pop and R&B (Katy Perry, Ludacris, Mary J. Blige)

/me slaps Lloyd.

The song that got me addicted to metal? Metallica - One when I was bout 9. Never looked back. The popiest I go would probly be Amy Winehouse.

Its no fun until someone dies.

Bah, Amy Winehouse. How dare you slap me?

Re: \m/ The Rock Metal and Necro Thread \m/

Lol, my bad, just acting out against Mary J. Blige.
Amy Winehouse is pretty rockstar man, alot more rock and roll than most rock/metal singers/bands even.

Its no fun until someone dies.
Cos I need to watch things die.
