What happened to living off the land?
I guess they forgot how to hunt since they got guns and snowmobiles.
Should go back to walking and bows and arrows.

I love how Han can so lightly say "they should abandon their ways of civilization and become hunters and gatherers," as if just about anyone could ditch civilization with ease.
The Somalians did it.
Who cares? If they can't do well living in the middle of nowhere, they shouldn't live in the middle of no where.
Why do you identify them primarily as "Americans"? Every nation has idiots. We don't identify those nations by them. That would be ignorant.
As heartless as it is, I kind of had the same gut reaction as V.Kemp. If life there is so tough, don't live there!
Having said that, according to this report these people need more help from the state than they are currently getting in these especially trying circumstances.
I'm not being heartless. I'm not saying let them starve. I'm saying it's just stupid to support them living out in the wilderness. If they need help, we have systems for that. They should get the use of our safety nets just like everyone else. And they should have the sense to not waste all of that safety-net help travelling to their home... IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. It's increasing their costs substantially and obviously they don't have that luxury.
After america came, and disallowed them to continue thier nomadic lifestyle, with land ownership and whatnot, how can you jsut say "go back to bows and arrows" after it was america who took them away. They are american citizens now, if you forgot, and deserve to have the same standard of life as any other americans, regardless of geographical location. Or should everyone just leave alaska and come to other places in the states and take your jobs?
If you proposed that natives of this land sue the government of the USA for trillions I'd say ABOUT TIME.
But unless they're content with a lifestyle of welfare where the government of the USA takes care of them (in which case the problem here is that they do not get enough welfare to live in their native land), they need to make changes. I would contend that this is not something any human being should be content with.
I understand the point that it was the invasion of others on their land that resulted in their former way of life not functioning to provide for them anymore. But that's not a new grievance and I don't think an hour and fifteen minutes is THAT far from their "native land."
no argument here,we have a bad native problem here, where they live for free and drink...i dotn know why im paying for it with my taxes though...i didnt put them there..some guys hundreds of years ago did..make them pay.

Alaska is not exactly full of new Americans that took their land.
I'm sure they have more than enough land to hunt on, Its not like they have to pay for hunting licenses.
They even let them hunt for whales because of tradition. Except they dont have to use traditional weapons, they can use stinger missiles if they have them.
What did they do before government handouts?
