If you're wishing a happy Chinese New Year, you should do it in Chinese.  Otherwise, how would they know you're wishing them a happy new year?

Then he's just expecting Chinese people to line up to European cultural standards.  At that point, why the hell does he respect the Chinese New Year in the first place?

If the choice is "I'll recognize your culture if you submit to mine" or "screw your culture, you can't read whatever this is," it's the same either way.
