Between 2 full sentences that have a link or association, where you don't want to end the sentence or train of thought, but another comma would be jabbering and a pause would be nice.
darkmatt
how old are you??
first you ask about gravity and now the use of ; ![]()
Well, the use of ; isn't always very clear if you never bother about it ![]()
Hey, you're in class to learn that kind of stuff, so hah!
It really isn't that difficult ![]()
It's when you don't want to use a period, but not a comma either! ![]()
Or when you're summing up and need to split up the summed up parts...
Like Brussels, Belgium; Paris, France; Ookamoola, Zwamzwam.
See? Easy to remember! Don't bother knowing it into details, just remember when you could use it..
no no, you all got it the wrong way. ; is the thing you put at the end of a line of code!
Well, that's correct for Java. Semicolon at end of statement.
But, damn it, if I could get marks for using semicolons in my classes back when I was 16, I probably wouldn't have done so badly in English class. And if I got marks for using commas, which I use all the damn time and can't avoid, I would have been at the top of my class.
![]()
I'm doing GCSE English Matt and I got A*s in my mocks without putting in semi-colons.
Perhaps she means using it in the "to argue and persuade" sense...I.e. using a semi-colon for a reason to manipulate how the reader thinks, such as "..." does in-between phrases, (exaggerating either side of the sentence/phrase).
BUT: even then I doubt you'll get 3 marks purely from using that.
Make up a fact like I did in my mock XD
"Lamentin derives from the Latin word, Lambite; meaning to bring famine and pestilence to this land through the medium of bread. Noun, Pl. also means duck."
People around me thought I was weird because I was smiling in an exam ![]()
Hmm
I think I'm doing a different board to you.
I'm doing AQA
Which consists of: *coughs*
5 pieces of coursework
3 speaking tests
and 2 written exams...
FUNFUNFUN ![]()
Hmmm, my mate's doing a Welsh board...
Are you reading "To Kill a Mocking-bird"?
in my language ; is put in between different parts of a sentence that have no connection with eachother
Good thing we know what your language is.
Care to tell us? ![]()
Estonian
In dutch you put a ; whenever you forget to press the shift key;
