vista isnt a complete failure. its a fine OS that just got a bad rep early on because they released it too early. they do seem to be doing a much better job with windows 7 though, which is based off of vista. an open beta means not only a less buggy os, but that there should be no driver problems when it is finally released, also, from what people have said, it seems like it comes with much less fluff and its easier to remove fluff.

windows 7 might be a big enough step in the right direction that i'll actually feel obligated to pay for my version of it when it comes out. but thats a big maybe.

lets see if the forum [trolling!] strike this thread. it goes against the same rule many closed threads have gone against. im leaning towards it wont be closed, because its not a game; but those cheeky f-mods, they like surprising me.

Linux is mostly a mess, MacOS X is limited in every way, BeOS is dead and its successor's not finished, OS/2 and its successor eCS is dead. The only thing that remains is an unfinished windows. And what I don't like about it, is that it's so overprotecting....

Yes, I mean it's can be used as a windows, to a certain extend. Limitations that would still trouble them will be minor bugs, proper ntfs support and some other small things..

Reread what I wrote avo. *I* consider it like that. And there was a demand for a new OS, wich microsoft exploited and got a whole load of money out of it. It's windows ME all over again. Windows ME was a terrible thing and never worked properly.. But, it did include a lot of new innovative features like restore points and such, wich were implemented beautifully in the OS they released only a bit more than a year later with Windows 2000. Do you see the analogy?

im not calling you nazis; im calling you [my forum superheroes]; which is night and day. if you take it personally its your own fault. f-mods isnt the correct term, because they arent confined to that group and all of that group arent [X-men]; the [forum-republican] term describes what they do, censor non-destructive forum material inorder to enforce their morals on others. if you dont want to be referred by it, only edit destructive forum material like what the job entails and when I or other people use the term, we wont be referring to you.

You can not deny that there's no negative connotation to the term, to describe it lightly. It is trolling, and my decision stays. If you have problems hop on irc sometime and discuss it with one of us (or a mod) there.

I consider the quality of Vista as "advanced beta", not the price. People who bought Vista without testing it, are dumb $200 is defenatly way overprised. And au contraire, I consider what they did plain theft. But if there's a market that's willing to buy crap software for a whole load of money, why wouldn't you allow them? It brings in a motherload of money that can bes spent on other developping projects. I can understand it from their pov, but that doesn't mean I approve of it..

There are others. I read it on techzine.nl, wich is dutch so of little use for you Do some research on your own if you don't believe me.

It's nowhere near optimalised, it's using a lot more resources than 7 does, the uac contained several serious bugs at the start (like undoing certain preferences), and so on. These are things users shouldn't tolerate in a finished product. It had some nice improvements though. The new install was a welcome sight (although it leaves you almost no options), encryption, auc (when tweaked), the network stack performs better etc.
