"What does this all mean?"

Re: So WTF are we humans doing here anyway?

I would expect the question to be asked by an alien species, observing humanity as a whole from their orbiting 'flying saucers', trying to figure out not what they are up to, but how, EXACTLY, they are going to deal with what they are up to.

Are we going to have robots run by an internet connected and controlled by sentient supercomputers?

Are we going to simply overload ourselves with it all and simply stop, and enter a period of developmental stagnation?

Is the distopian existence described in the 'Matrix' only decades away?

i think as technology continues to advance as quickly as it does, and governments continue to move as slowly as they do, one of them has to give.  either there is going to be anarchy or theres going to be stagnation,an economic depression, stunted technological growth, and increasing amounts of anger directed at the government possibly violent possibly not that will cause dramatic changes to exist. In short, i think the nanny state and socialism will fail and not recover.

really? they didnt have a tool that would measure the exact number of illegal downloads made during each person's individual viewing of the video and then edit the video before they reached that part of the video to give them real numbers? you're a [fluffing] moron.

Re: So WTF are we humans doing here anyway?

According to the video, by 2049, you'll be able to by a computer that has more computational ability than the entire human species for about 1000 bucks.

A.I?  Yes.

A.I. superior to humans, ALL humans? Yes.

In our lifetimes?  Most probably, yes.

So, some analysis of these numbers, please.  If in fact our technology has this potential, and if in fact we retain control over this technology, WTF should we, as a human species, do with it?

Re: So WTF are we humans doing here anyway?

how did you get from powerful computers to AI? one is hardware, the other is software. they are completely different.
