Topic: Auto Bailout

Paulson and Bush are full of shit.

For weeks they said no money for car companies, that TARP money is mine to give to my wall street buddies only.

After the Senate called their bluff it didnt take long for them to buckle.

Now we'll see how they split up the 15b they have left.

It probably safe to assume congress will not give them the next 350B.
They have 15B left.
GM needs 4B
Chrystler needs a couple of B
AIG needs 10B more

Oh boy, fun fun.
I wonder if Paulson had any Math classes when he did his English Degree.

Re: Auto Bailout

What's your problem? My buddies in the auto industry want to get a few more big bonuses before their companies run out of funds. Damn you if you don't support their private jets, $40 million boats, multiple mansions lifestyles. We owe it to them for running their companies so well.

The Senate put restrictions on all that crap as an addendum to the bailout.  Read the fine print.  smile

Re: Auto Bailout

It's fine. They took extra large bonuses before the bonus government money. Their regular salary is quite nice compensation. Then there's everything they can pocket. That's a lot of money to keep track of.

Re: Auto Bailout

They need to just allow the markets to do their thing - interfering with natural market selection is only exacerbating the issue, and just making the fall that much harder.

Re: Auto Bailout

Everything they're getting is on the USA's credit anyway. It's not like we have the money to give. It's all deficit spending. We're so brilliant to solve credit problems by spending more on credit!

Re: Auto Bailout

If only those in our government were as clever as other nations' governments today!

But it'd be evil if we did it, because we already have the most stuff.

Re: Auto Bailout

actually Han, im pretty sure Bush isnt giving them any of the bailout money. they're giving chrysler and GM 14 or 15Billion that was set aside a long time ago, to help the big three make their cars more fuel efficient..

and for the size the companies are, company jets and the bonuses the execs were getting were not out of line, and nowhere near the level the banks were doing before this crisis.

Re: Auto Bailout

Companies that lose money on a yearly basis don't have to look far to see why when they spend money on private jets and their CEO's bonus is more than half of their annual net losses.

Re: Auto Bailout

Depends on the company. tongue Some are startlingly bad.

I don't understand bonuses during years of loss anyway. Anyone who came to my government begging for billions in handouts after they gave out those bonuses and luxuries would be executed by firing squad. No respect!

Re: Auto Bailout

i bet you can't wait for obama too now tongue

i'll bet you any money, he would've been tougher on GM

Re: Auto Bailout

The Big 3 are so sure Obama will give them unlimited money that they only care about surviving until the first day he's in office.

Re: Auto Bailout

The Big 3 should be nationalized and only build military vehicles. The employees get their pension guaranteed by the government but they have to fight in the vehicles they build if there is a war.
Everyone is happy.

Re: Auto Bailout

It's not his responsibility to get involved at Bush's level just yet as he hasn't been sworn in as President.

Re: Auto Bailout

rooster...that's another great thing about obama you're pointing out

like he said, ONLY one president at a time!!!
if he started getting in there, it would only make things worse, it would cause A LOT of confusion and would cause chaos

not to mention that he can't risk loosing his credibility or power before even becoming president, he needs to use it wisely, and i'm sure he will once he's president

Re: Auto Bailout

What are you talking about? He's not president yet? He runs the OFFICE of the president-elect. He's had a seal just like the president's since before he was even elected.

He just wants to cover his ass and all the facts support this theory. You'd love him even if his staff turned out to have more connections to Chicago's corrupt mess of politicians!

Re: Auto Bailout

It must be nice to be a CEO and be able to sit back and watch Ron butterfingers and his mob of overpaid, underworked (and in some cases unworked) cronies go out and fight for you.

Re: Auto Bailout

17.4B good money from the "TRAP" fund given to losers.

well if it was in the "TRAP" fund it was already wasted anyway so I guess it doesnt matter.

Biggest problem is that dumbass ontario government wants to give 20% of that as well.

Liberals are such idiots, should all be shot

Re: Auto Bailout

Looks like Old Henry is leveraging the TARP now.
I thought he already spent the first 350B, where is the 6B GMAC welfare cheque coming from?

Re: Auto Bailout

Gladiator, Obama isn't home free from now until he gets in office regarding blame for whatever happens.  Remember, he was a senator, and is still qualified to be a senator for now, but he chose to resign.  That does indict him, because he had the power to influence the bailout as a senator, yet chose not to.
