if you look into the whole pog/grunt thing, you'd understand what BW is talking about. yeah, my friend was a marine, but he spent 4 years behind a desk running papers and coffee for officers. he has a better understanding of things than the average civvie, but compared to an infantryman, all he has is 2 weeks of "roughing it" after he got out of boot camp.

like i said, from those in the know, /laugh, cry

and btw, the marine corps does use females in certain infantry-tasked roles, like searching females in homes/checkpoints since in the middle east, its way more acceptable than men doing it.<

And what of the two soldiers? Both of whom are serving in Iraq. (Ok, one is currently on leave) Both of whom say the same thing Ehawk says. Do they not get it too?

BW's view is based on when he was serving, WAS serving, past-tense. It was accurate then, I have no doubt, and have not questioned that.
My view is based on my obsessive questioning of my friends currently serving in the British military service. Currently. Present tense.

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Re: Women Soldiers

fokker, clearly those two serving in iraq are wrong and silly hippies because they do not share obsolete downright insulting views about women. those bloody bastards.

Confirmation is for sissies and altar boys.

Re: Women Soldiers

basically, yes, fokker. unless they're infantry, as bw was, then they don't know what they're really talking about. there's thousands of jobs in the military, they're not all the same. and when cooks and pilots and admin get deployed, they don't usually 'serve' anything like infantry serve, who go out on patrols, risk ied and sniper fire every step. and the word of bw, who's been thru infantry  training, vs. that of a pilot, who knows about as much about infantry and combat as you do from the movies...i'm gonna take bw's every time.

deci, been laid recently?

Re: Women Soldiers

yes. have you?

Re: Women Soldiers

you'll also notice that dear senile blackwing included patrolling in a noncombat area in a country whose population is friendly as hot combat. if walking around with a gun is what blackie thinks is hot combat, i wouldn't put much weight on his words either. with comments like he has just made, i doubt he has ever been in frontline.

"and the word of bw, who's been thru infantry  training, vs. that of a pilot,"

What is this fixation you people have with the pilot? Haven't you noticed my inistence on re-directing your attentions, quite correctly I feel, to the two soldiers serving in Iraq? Or is that part just inconvenient?

There are only so many ways I can say it, and I have said it in almost every way I can think of:

Blackwing would have been right when he was serving, but not now. Things change, as my two friends currently serving in Iraq, tell me.

Re: Women Soldiers

@ Ehawk.

Thanks for you service, from an American.  I got your point/mission.
We worked with Army Engineers, same sort of stuff, in Desert Shield faze.

Im sure you can have a female work her ass off.  I understand the tail chasing aspect for sure.

Still, when the bullets fly, what do you think your perspective would have  been then ??
As you said, you were chasing her..... if she were next to you, hunkered down, shit whizzing by..... wouldnt an eye go her way ?  Wouldnt you wonder how she is doing, if she is safe ??

If some crazed assholes came charging in your direction......wouldnt your gravitate her way to make sure she stayed safe ??

If you leg was shattered, would you trust her to carry you out ??  Would you be able to command her, w/another,  to provide cover fire, while you all fell back say 100 meters, then called them back while you all provided cover ?  Placing her in extreme danger, to save protect the rest as they withdrew ?

These are all scenarios you can be faced with.  I think a female, being a female, in those situations disrupts the mission.

probably a trick question with JA on the team...

Re: Women Soldiers

If a female wants to get shot at - then whats the problem?

pulling a trigger isnt hard- the Red Army used female soldiers succesfully in the past- plus i guess it reduces homosexuality which is  widespread in the military.
the military is a macho domain & I guess guys dont like their position to be 'undermined'

Buddugoliaeth neu Marwolaeth

Re: Women Soldiers

@EmperorHez
first, Homosexuality is just as common in the military as in the public.  the notion of this "steriotype" of gay sailors and such is just the product of an ongoing joke and harrassment as a result from the band "The Villiage People".  Even if a homosexual was on active duty, there are rules that make him/her keep thier sexual preferences to themselves, this prevents the "macho" guys from kicking thier asses!  this is called the "dont ask, dont tell" policy.

second, though there may be men that feel uncomfortable when under command of a woman, this is not a problem for most.  Statistics have shown more that 2/3rds of the U.S. DOD trust a female officer than a man for various reasons such as; Male officers are more harder to deal with when mistakes are made, Female officers tend to allow time off for family situations easier than men, and overall environment is more relaxed than that of a male leader.

One is infantry, the one currently on leave, the other is in artillery or tanks or something like that... he blows shit up, that much I do know.

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Re: Women Soldiers

truth be told, a female holds the record on the old rifle range at parris island. 246 i think.

Re: Women Soldiers

BTW, there are cooks in iraq.  they work in supply and logistics and there jobs in contigent operations are to make sure the MRE supply is adequate enough to support the battalion.  also they do stand "watch" its a requirement for all armed service members.

Re: Women Soldiers

Watch is so different than manning an OP next to enemy lines.

I have stood watch in a friendly base with a load of explosives on the back of a heavy cargo vehicle. I know what watch is.

This I agree fully with Black_Wing. I was infantry as well, and Infantry have to go without sometimes... we may get cut off, we may be in a prolonged fire fight. The Chosun Valley  and the retreat from there is a great example. Female infantry would have been medically evacuated well before the end of that long march due to the grime, the dirt, the stress, and their 'period'. The combination would devastate them. But the male soldiers who did that march did not have that issue, and so they did make that march. One of the longest retreats under pressure (if not the longest) in US history. Then those same soldiers marched back to the north.

The whole time they had to scrounge for food, let alone 'femamine products'... I mean my God it would be a disaster to put a female on the front line as infantry in a modern war, for them and for the men they serve with.
