mrrow!
I personaly think we shoulde let the Liberals, NDP and the bloc have their time in the sun, see how bad they screw up, have an election and get Harper elected with a Majority... Those clowns dont stand a chance at governing more then a month if even that long
>Those clowns dont stand a chance at governing more then a month if even that long
They thought the same about the nazis back then
Give the NDP a month and we'll be paying for it for the next hundred years.
We're still paying for their crap from 20 years ago
Sell Quebec
Congress would probably buy it
maybe Belgium would buy it, we're having a jolly good time with our other french-speaking countrymen so why not
hahaha a bitter blow to the Quebecois
"you're now citizens of a Francophone European nation!"
"Urra--wait a minute, you mean France, right?"
"Nope!"
"Switzerland?"
"Nope!"
"...Monaco?"
"Nope!"
"Mon Dieu!! J'suis Walloon!"
Everyone seems to be under the impression that the opposition is trying to start a coup and forcefully gain power, which is undemocratic. What you people don't understand is how our systems works.
Harper's Conservatives have less then 1 half + 1 of the seats of our parliament. But he needs 1 half + 1 seating members to vote in agreement with his bills in order to get them passed. So he needs -some of-the opposition to support him. However, we are in a situation where the Liberals (a centrists/ slightly left leaning), a very socialist party, and a socialist/ pro- separation party VS. the Conseratives, a very right of center party.
The Bloc will not vote for Harper's bills unless they benefit Quebec. The NDP will not vote for Harper unless his bills contain some relief for the working class. The Liberals are hiding in their holes scared for an election in which Harper could get a majority. As it was before our last election, the Bloc and the NDP voted against all of Harper's bills, which the Liberals did not vote at all fearing an election too soon. So Harper got his bills through, and called an election and we are in the situation I mentioned above.
As it stand today: The opposition has enough strength of numbers to block any bill Harper puts forward, but if they do, it will force an election. Less then 2 months after the last one, no one wants that outcome. But, Harper decides to call their bluff, by putting forward a bill that cuts opposition funding (which would gut all opposition parties, leaving the Conservatives the most powerful political party in Canada atm) and does not give any money to a struggling economy. Also, Harper is in much denial about the state of the economy, and is ingoring the fact that Canadians lost 70k jobs in October of this year alone. Both of these have very much pissed off all parties. Thus, by uniting the Liberals and the NDP, with support from the Bloc, into a coalition, we have a party with 1 half + 1 of seating members on their side. But as no one wants an election, they have asked the Governor General (representative of the Queen in Canada) to allow them to form a government, which would get rid of Harper.
The GG has decline and progrouged (Sp?) parliament, which means there is no vote until Jan. 29, meaning Harper is free to do what he will until then. To make the process all the more complicated, the Liberals (largest opposition party) are currently in a leadership race, and it is almost certain that Micheal Can't-spell-his-friggen-last-name will back away from the coalition, thus allowing Harper more time to brode in the dark wondering how best to spread his Albertan Empire to include all of Canada. Perhaps he take a page from Bush, declare all other provinces part of the axis of evil and hire some Texan vigilantes to invade France. I mean, Quebec...
wow, and i thought the american system was bad. your's sucks! shouldnt of expected any better from the canucks
He means "New France" which tries to be more french then France itself.
There are 308 electoral seats in Canada.
Quebec has 75 (based on population they should have 68, but our constitution says they must have a minimum of 75, so they get 7 special ones.)
There is one party that only fields candidates in Quebec (the Bloc) and they got 49 of the 75 seats there.
The Liberals get most of the seats from Toronto to the Atlantic.
The Bible bashing, gun toting, Bush Loving Conservatives get most seats from Toronto to the Pacific.
The NDP get mostly idiots that cant decide if they are for a welfare state or a gun toting bible bashing state.
The Liberals try to pick a leader from Quebec so they get the seats in Quebec that don't go to the Bloc.
This time they picked one that hardly knows any English, and it cost them huge.
If you dont know french, it doesnt matter, Quebec votes Bloc anyway. If you dont know English you are an idiot to run for party leadership.
New Brunswick is the only "French Only" province in Canada, but they are not militant about French and the usually vote Liberal.
Ontario is a manufacturing province, full of useless trade unions, hence they vote Liberal.
So the Conservatives have 143 seats of 308 (154 is half)
The other 3 losers pooled their vote and want to run the country.
Leadership by commitee.
You scratch my back I scratch yours and we all go down the shithole.
> But seriously, whats up with all of these third world countries anyway? Zimbabwe, Thailand, Canada
Bahaha!

"But seriously, whats up with all of these third world countries anyway? Zimbabwe, Thailand, Canada"
Interesting then how most of the Western world was already in recession while our economy was still growing. Maybe Americans can learn a thing or two from us poor, desperate third world countries.
Gambling on snow and then writing IOUs plus interest doesn't count as growing the eco--HEY WAIT IT DOES!!!
/me saves our economy
LOL
Its been grown the US economy for years now.
When the president says "go out and spend to help the economy" you know you're headed to hell in a handbasket.
