its different from Jews and Asians because  their culture was brought with them when they were oppressed. Africans were basically strolling around in the jungle, hit on the head with a club, thrown on a ship with no one else from their society, then sold into slavery with limited communication, then after several generations, they were released and know nothing of their culture. the culture of african americans today is a result of a people with little to nothing remaining of their culture.

i wouldnt call their culture one of dependency. i would call it one of oppression. the white man is still hurting them and education is the work of the white man. so instead of going to school they're more inclined to deal drugs or gang bang.

as for that, that's a huge crock of shit. race is a subgroup under a species. humans are a species, not a race; unless you're suggesting we're just a race of some larger species? in that case, i'd be delighted to hear of our sibling races. we have human race, what are the other races? you started it, now you finish it. or you could just admit that humans are a species that has many races, like any sensible person does.

Until you become a black man, nothing you say is really valid about our culture and what we must do to become successful or what conditions cause us to fail at prosperity. This thread is 90% stereotypical and unfairly biased. To say that blacks can't prosper because we listen to hip hop an' sell crack rock, as Decimus so elegantly put it is extremely ridiculous considering the fact that you have caucasians who listen to hardcore rock and roll (lyrics screaming about ripping their souls out and going to hell) while having a breakdown because they've injected themselves with crystal meth and horse tranquilizers. 

You have other european nationalities who drink like there is no tommorow and spend their days thinking about sex and how to get an easy euro. And while I can continue, I'm digressing a little. Each culture has it's ups and it has its downs. You can't point out a negative attribute with a race/culture without making a similar comparison with another race/culture and call it fair.

Decimus says to name a black inventor in an attempt to disprove the progress of the black culture and the impact they've had on society. However on the flip side, (though this also digresses a big), you have the white American culture who voted George Bush and in turn started the downfall of their own culture and the british who supported the decision. Asians rather than stand united about being asian, become utterly offended at times if you mistake which asian background their heritage derives from.

Why do you say that black people feel that some of their problems stem from the oppression of other cultures even to this day? It's quite simple when you take the time to look at the other side of the coin. You look at me and assume that I'm up to no good or that I'm going to cause trouble or that I'm not capable of carrying on an intellectual discussion about something which most likely doesn't even matter. Yet somehow you feel that the amount of information I've gathered about a historic event(probably written incorrectly) helps to determine my social status. And when I fail to meet your standards, or if another member of the black community fails to meet your standards, then you in turn label the other members in a negative manner and hence threads like this become constructed.

Then you overlook those of us who are building ourselves up to become better individuals in spite of the labels you give us. Those of us who overcome challenges to become buisness owners, real estate investors, stock market traders, governors, lawyers, doctors, teachers and depending on the current U.S. election, Presidents; will remember that a mere 300 years ago, none of this was even a realistic thought.

So while you guys argue about why my culture isn't progressing like other cultures and how we are dependent on our oppressors. I'm going to continue to gain experience at my current job as a Manager like I am. Finish up my college education and next year when I earn my degree, I'll come back and simply tell those of you who speak with ignorant minds: Bullshit.
