Topic: quick question about diabetes

so this guy at my house took a shot, that was half butterscotch schnapps and half baileys irish creme.

it's a very, very sweet shot.

and then i find out he has type 1 diabetes :x

should i be worried? and if so, how worried.  he has insulin with him, and said he can check his blood sugar levels easy enough

i just feel like a dick cause i offered him the shot.  is it any huge deal? or is he good cause he can give himself a shot of insulin if he needs it

Re: quick question about diabetes

I wouldn't let him drink at your house at all anymore.  It's up to him to take care of himself and he isn't.  Before a diabetic faints he gets stupid.  Could you give him his insulin without killing him with an overdose?  Then don't let him start on the path to coma.

The core joke of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that of course no civilization would develop personal computers with instant remote database recovery, and then waste this technology to find good drinks.
Steve Jobs has ruined this joke.

One shot isnt that big of a deal.  Just be careful for the future.

Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth. ~Psalms 57:5

Re: quick question about diabetes

he's had shot's here before.  normally i wouldn't care but damn there has got to be so much sugar in that drink.

he was fine, i think i was over-reacting.  better safe than sorry though

"One shot isnt that big of a deal. "

Unless you are a Diabetic, then it could [damn skippy] kill you. Sorry to be rude but the severity of the point needs to be carried accross.

Like The Yell says, it's up to him to look after himself. If he cannot do that, and he dies, who will they blame? The idiot who couldn't take care of himself or the poor sod, who didn't know any better, giving our sugar in a glass?

"So, it's defeat for you, is it? Someday I must meet a similar fate..."

Re: quick question about diabetes

that was my main concern actually.  i'm completely clueless when it comes to how sensitive of a condition it is. my screwup for letting it slip my mind, but his screw up for taking a shot of a drink that he didn't know the contents of.

still, in the end it's my house so my problem.  that's how i feel about it anyway.

about 2 hours went by and he seemed well enough, and i gave him a bottle of water that he ended up drinking.  i hope i'm just being overly cautious about it all.  but yeah, if something bad happened/happens i'm sure i'd be the guy to catch some shit

Re: quick question about diabetes

With all that sugar, I'm surprised he's not already sick. My roommate will give his dog beer on occasion, but none of the hard liquor because there so much sugar in the hard stuff. Yeah, like others are saying, don't let him drink at your house anymore. Or, learn how to help him in case something happens. Which means you need someone to stay sober the whole time he's there.
