speaking of the numbers of players, all u guys need to start educating other new players about this because I know most of them don't read main forums. Back then, I don't read main forums very much as I thought it's pointless. And now, my mind is changed and try to read more often, because I care about this game and I love this game too much for it to die.

If we have 130 players, it's possible we might actually have 150-200 particpating?? If you're reading this, you should seriosuly considering to start educating new players in your own fam to sign up, doesnt matter who is good, who suck, or who is dishonorable. I managed to ask one of new players I met to sign up. I will try ask others to sign up. I want to see a lot of numbers of sign up. No pressure needed, it wouldnt hurt to ask and educate. :-)

everytime im in a family i open myself for new people to come and talk and ask any questions about the game as i was once a noob to. i always educate them to read forums and get involved in discussions. wish some of them listened.

yes but 6 families at 20 players per family = 120 players... and we do have that tongue

i posted that and "started all this" because it seemed to me that the majority of people posting wanted larger family sizes.  so why not accomidate that and just have a few less families.

6 families is still a decent number, maybe go with no allies, and no naps.

I agree with General Skulls, even more, the max size of a system is 24 planets, so it can be done with 24 fam members in each family. That's 144 spots, filling 120 now and letting 24 for later aditions

it was just a thought... if there is a small amount of families, something should be tweaked so it isnt imperial onfrawhoring, then some combat at the end of round.

Ok, just to address some of the points raised here:

1) This is just an "Are you interested?" thread, not a sign up. It gives us an indication of how many people might want to play, but it isn't definite.

2) If you have a reduced number of families, you'll get reduced competition. I would love to bring back big families, but only if we had the player base to back it up. A galaxy with 5 or 6 big families may sound appealing, but think of the logistics - you only have 4 or 5 others to target. A couple of big wars and you'll be left with half that.. with the other half of the galaxy turning inactive. It doesn't take much for people to get disheartened and demotivated in this game and if half of your fam get like that, you're pretty much dead and in turn, the rest of the galaxy suffers.

3) Individuals within smaller families will have more attention paid to them. With 100+ people interested, you are bound to have a number of lesser known players. I can see that in bigger families, those players who were picked first will have more important roles to play in the fam with perhaps the less experienced players being left behind as you can afford to have 1 or 2 players who don't do much in a fam of 20 or 30. With smaller fams, you'll need everyone to pull their weight and will therefore concentrate on smaller players.

4) Yes, we're in need of something different. Whilst the selection process is different to anything we've done in IC before, it might not be enough for some people. Without giving away too much, this is the reason we're trying to get a number of huge gameplay changes fast tracked into the ICPG to change a number of aspects of the game. We'll save the details for the announcement just in case it doesn't work out as planned.

5) We don't ignore everything you say. Of course your opinions get taken into account when we discuss these things. We just don't always agree with them... wink

ok, lets go in order.

1)  ok nothing to argue about that.... other than.... when you post this, we (the players) start getting into it and thats bad for you guys (mods) tongue

2)  i have said this more than once, and it wont be the last time "there is no room for LOGIC in this game" lol .   but it leads me to 2 questions.  a) will this only happen once?  b) if not why not try it once, it does seem to be the more popular atm (or maybe put a vote or something).  but assuming it only happens once, you have very valid points there.


3) the only thing i can say to that is..... i seriously hope not, almost all the players that have posted here/signed up are the ones that are concerned with the community as a whole and want to see it grow and get back to where it was when i started playing.  that being said, we would all be hypocrates and bad bad people if we just ignored the ones we dont know, or didnt take the time to teach them (as i am doing right now, helping the other pop banker in my fam... thats why this post is slow). 


4)  i await the final decision and will play it no matter fam sizes or anything (well if i have to say PP_ is a god, i am out). 


5)  i know you dont ignore all what we say, and it seems you (mods as a whole) disagree with what the commumity thinks more times than not.  the one thing that annoys me most when mods post, they hardly ever explain anything, (and i have to say you are the best at explaining things), and i know that its a pain to explain every little thing.  but sometimes it makes it alot easier if you do.  for example.... we wouldnt have had the last 2 pages of people yelling at people if you posted yoru last post first instead of the little tiny one.

is this going to be a before-Christmas present, or an after-Christmas present? Even better: Before American Thanksgiving, or After? (when is Thanksgiving for you Americans this year, anywho?

So by your post, arsbury, im guessing families will be ~8 members in size, atm am i correct?

1) That's the whole idea smile We posted this so people can start talking about it and spread the word. We encourage people to let others know who may not have heard of this before.

2) I can't really answer your questions. It really depends on how successful this one is. Like the ICC, its going to take a long long time to set up for mods as it involves having to a) deal with all the applications, b) organising the selection of players, c) placing each player manually, d) modding the galaxy. If it does turn out to be successful, I still doubt we'll be hurrying to set up the next one a week later - too much of a good thing will lead it turning average and boring tongue

3) Yes, that's absolutely the right attitude to have. Unfortunately, not everyone thinks like that and many people play to win. Whatever it takes. Sad but true.

4) Great!

5) I kinda explained it in a nutshell in my original post... "20/30/50 player fams won't be happening. We don't have enough players to justify it." Also, it may seem that mods disagree with a lot of what the community says, but that's only because we have to look at things from a different perspective. For example, no offence but players tend to voice their opinions based on what they think is best for themselves. We have to make decisions based on how it effects everyone, across all galaxies. We don't do it to be difficult, but believe it or not we're looking for a better IC too. Although we try to, we can't please everyone.

Unless Stefan starts answering me soon, we're going to have to postpone the start of this until the galaxy timeout period - mid December.
