It's like asking Americans to vote on where or not which form of the English language should be taught in British schools. They have no personal stake in the matter, and it won't cause them any physical harm. Only, when reading signs on travels, they wouldn't have to stop locals and ask what the word "colour" means.

I say let the gays marry, they deserve the right to be miserable and lose half their stuff as much as anyone.  Personally I don't understand why people would want to get married in the first place, but then I've yet to observe a marriage that didn't end at best badly and at worst violently.

Unhealthy? How is homosexuality "unhealthy"?! Is being German "unhealthy"? How about Canadian? One can't help being gay, any more than the color of one's skin or nation on birth. And I'd say, at least in the United States, we're FAR from "supporting" homosexuality.

Dude, you're an idiot. You obviously don't know a single gay person. Maybe you are aquainted with one or two, which I doubt from your bigoted stance, but you don't actually KNOW any gay people.

More than 80% of my closest friends are gay and lesbian. This has been the case my entire life, from teenage years on. Every single one of these people lived a life of shame and tried to be something they were not, until they'd had enough and faced what they actually were. Not a single one of them made a choice to be gay or lesbian; they just WERE.

The ignorance just never ceases to amaze me...

Two thirds of the country is against closing the coffeeshops, yet they still want to close them. The argument being that there's problems with people from other countries going to the border regions and this supposedly causes some troubles. Also they're saying that because there's coffeeshops, organised crime flourishes.

First one can be solved by either requiring a dutch passport for weed or moving the coffeeshops out of city centers, second one by legalising weed, setting up government grow farms and requiring coffeeshops to buy their weed there. Prohibition just means that everything goes to the organised crime.

However the current government are a bunch of ideologic christian turds with no backbone against international pressure.

I mean what are other countries gonna do? impose sanctions? see how they'd like sanctions in return for everything that goes through Rotterdam, biggest port in the world... and we're helping in Afghanistan while the rest of Europe is sitting on their asses so the US owes us one too. The government can easily get away with legalising weed, even more so because there's plenty of scientific evidence that going bac to illegality will only make things worse.

I hope Obama will move the US some more towards making weed legal, believe he did spoke out for it in the past. Maybe then our spineless government will perceive some less pressure against doing the right thing.

I'm sorry, you're not an idiot, that was rude of me. I'm straight and it just worked out that most of my friends are gay and lesbian. I have no bigotry toward straight people; like people in general, most are useless and some are decent. And many of the gay men I know are more masculine than straight men I deal with on a daily basis.

As for the gay people you've known having significant "psychological distress": talk to a random sampling of any group of people, and you'll find that most of them believe they have psychological issue and need some drug to help them. They live in a society that tells them that, so they now have something "wrong" with them.

In regards to sociology and psychology being pretend - they might as well be. They are not absolute sciences, like chemistry and biology. Psychologists have no more idea why things happen in a person's head then laypeople do.
