Topic: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

The balloting measures don't seem to get as much attention as the presidential race, but to some people they're equally as important (or moreso).

The two big ones were:

1) The marijuana reform movement won two prized victories, with Massachusetts voters decriminalizing possession of small amounts of the drug and Michigan joining 12 other states in allowing use of pot for medical purposes.

Henceforth, people caught in Massachusetts with an ounce or less of pot will no longer face criminal penalties. Instead, they'll forfeit the marijuana and pay a $100 civil fine.

Woo! It's about time. smile

2) In an election otherwise full of liberal triumphs, the gay rights movement suffered a stunning defeat as California voters approved a ban on same-sex marriages that overrides a recent court decision legalizing them.

"people caught in Massachusetts with an ounce or less of pot will no longer face criminal penalties. Instead, they'll forfeit the marijuana and pay a $100 civil fine."

hmm, so if a 6 year old is found with less then a gram of pot in school, i wonder what happens...

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

looks like a 100 fine, and confiscation.....the 6-year-old just cant smoke it in school.

Good for the gay marriage ban in California.....
The COURT had NO RIGHT authorizing gay marriage, when the referendum passed the FIRST time in California.

All that will happen is a leftist justice will legislate from the bench, toss out the will of the people, pass over the California Govt., and MANDATE that Gay marriage is legal..........again.

Come .......joust w/the master.

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

well, im assuming the parents would get the fine... you dont think there would be a issue with the parents providing a dangerous living enviroment where their kid has access to pot? will pot be less regulated then alcohol or cigarettes?

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

like zomg tongue

hmz, parents should then be fined when the kids have access to alcohol, cigarettes, bleech, gunpowder, mousetraps etc as well tongue?

till the end of time..

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

"Nebraska voters, meanwhile, approved a ban on race- and gender-based affirmative action, similar to measures previously approved in California, Michigan and Washington. Returns in Colorado on a similar measure were too close to call."

Finally!  Something is being done about discriminatory affirmative action.  Go Nebraska!

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

finally? as the part you quoted cleary mentions, the same thing has been done in California, Michigan, and Washington...

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

What's funny about Marijuana is that it was made illegal to create a loophole with immigration, permitting the government to arrest some Mexicans. However, I am opposed to its legalization because the pot-heads I have encountered are parasitic members of society, and supposedly marijuana does that by killing motivation.

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

Non smoking ppl won't suddenly start buying majiruana because it's decriminalized.
Prohibition of alcohol, never stopped ppl drinking, it just brought a mafia making lot of money around, same with Majiruana.
More chance to find a kid with his parents' gun at school than with some marijuana. But that's another debate...

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

Theo,

Hey now. At least I have some empirical/observational basis for making the claim I did.

Btw, I don't shave my palms since there's no hair on them, but I do shave "down there." Don't you?

"However, I am opposed to its legalization because the pot-heads I have encountered are parasitic members of society, and supposedly marijuana does that by killing motivation."

As opposed to all the other parasitic members of society.  I've met people who lose motivation when they're stoned I also know people who can't get motivated unless they're stoned.  I support legalizing pot because in the end it is no worse for your health than cigarettes or alcohol and it gives the government another product they can tax heavily giving them more money to get things done, or increase their salaries it's 50:50 really...40:60...20:80...ok .0001:99.9999.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world, those who understand binary and those who don't.

DPS,

I don't know, it might cut jobs. It gives the FDA something to do, and that creates employment.

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

Question: Why is a population that is 10-15% homosexual and 85-90% heterosexual (estimates) voting on legislation that only affects homosexual people? I seems that allowing such a large majority with no personal stake in the matter is biased.

It's like asking Americans to vote on where or not which form of the English language should be taught in British schools. They have no personal stake in the matter, and it won't cause them any physical harm. Only, when reading signs on travels, they wouldn't have to stop locals and ask what the word "colour" means.

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

I don't understand the deal behind not letting unmarried people adopt kids.
I know a guy whose parents are married, they had kids and beat them all senseless, whereas my other friend who has been adopted by unmarried folks is now at university.

America, you are suffering from the tyranny of the majority.

What happens if I type here?

"America, you are suffering from the tyranny of the majority."

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

Gay people should not be allowed to get married, because marriage is a stupid institution of archaic origin. There is no reason to expand the inclusion of an institution that confers no benefits that can't be legally given by a court, and would upset the majority of the population because they hold to their stupid archaic institution.

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

but they want the tax right off and they dont want to be discriminated against by not being allowed to get married...

i say, if the definition of marriage is so religious, the government has no place with it, and shouldnt be recognizing marriages at all.

Re: Marijuana decriminalized in Massachusetts

Well then get rid of that tax benefit or assess its instrumental value.
