All americans/canadians are grouped together in a few (by country maybe) families and are ALLIED PERMANTLY.  Same with the "WORLD" teams, and each side fights for "global" supremacy

Playground is a cool/differant idea and joe does have a good point also.

Now that the mods have a new good idea, why not go furthur with some game changes for it also?

I like this idea. I liked the no expo phase thing. every player gets a certain amount of planets... No allies... No Naps... pure elimination. Payers give bankers planets at SOR and attackers get setup among certain systems... I think it would be crazy to try. It would be neat to have like 40-45 fams with only 3 people in each and see what happens. maybe 4 players in each. Only players that are interested in being active. No one may join after a certain time and it just goes elimination style.

I cannot agree with this, if you are leader and choose a player you already have to know what he's best at, because it is supossed you know that player. About activity well it is a risk, each player posting his expected activity would make all the leaders wanting only those players and then we turn it into a mess.

A better way imo to manage this is by

1. Counting all players signed in.
2. Extracting number of leaders, depending on amount of players per fam.
3. Electing leaders: A list of volunteers then mods elect them. I know players should do this, but it can take too long and never start the competition.
4. Leaders start to choose from list, posting: the name of the player and the role they want him to do.
5. When fams list are completed then the players decide:
----1.they agree or not to be with that leader
----2.they agree or not to play that role
6. Players who disagree are removed from their fams and put in a new list.
7. Uncomplete fams start picking up again players from that list (cannot choose the ones who just left).
8. This second fams list is DEFINITIVE

While doing all this steps, leaders should contact players and chat about role, activity, etc, just to be sure they wont leave the fam. For this purpose, the players, when signing in should also post his msn or email.

THis is playground not anyting else.

In the playground u know your friends and u know who can do this or that and u pick as such and the player has no choice, but to play for u.

  If someone decided not to play and went to another fam then half the people would be doing that.

Most people have an understanding who can do what and how active they have been in the past. I used Gondor as an example + alot of people wouldn't know Gondor, so if there we're 9 players left and U had  a choice between Gondor and WeYOU and u knew nothing about WeYOU then alot of people who chose Gondor just by seeing his name in forums when in fact the other guy was 10x more valuable.

Take the playground idea and move forward with it, I haven't seen anything else half worth its grain of salt in here other then U mods should consider some radical game changes for something differant.

Eveyrthing builds faster? lq's are worth more?, Only need 1 portal per system to cover the whole system? Any fleet in route to any of your planets 1 tick or more away u can see them comming as long as your science is at a certain level? Im sure there can be alot of ideas, but the problem would be implementing them which is totally differant

choose to not stay in the fam??? all players who join this should stay until the round is over. no option to kill or to delete. a player is chosen by someone he HAS to stay in that fam. if u choose a player who will not play with u, u chose wrong! otherwise just put free draft. and definitely the players should say before the race/role and gmt to make the leader decision more biased.

Example: Its my turn and i choose Nolio to play with me. he has to play with me (and ill be doomed.. but this is another story). he cant leave my fam cause he want to be chosen by Zidi who is the next one to pick a player. to choose is the way to balance things just like in soccer we pick teams or in any other sports. maybe we will not have balanced teams if the leaders are stupid and one is smart.. but this should not be certainly a point here.
