Erm, no. But i would say its one of, if not the, influential countries at this point of time. Its also the most hated.

Then you sir, are confused...

The U.S. is the world's ONLY superpower, not to say it's gonna stay that way for long there are 3 potential superpowers rising, China, Russia, India, will they make it to that level? Who knows.

But as of now, yes the U.S. is hated, as was Rome, Russia, and England during there peaks of power, the top guy is always hated because they are under a microscope by the world, and for your reading pleasure.

This is why America currently IS the world's only superpower, and an empire ( But it might be about to fall we shall know in the coming years) :

"A superpower is a state with a leading position in the international system and the ability to influence events and its own interests and project power on a worldwide scale to protect those interests; it is traditionally considered to be one step higher than a great power"

The U.S.'s interests are influenced on a Global scale.

>>With the demise of the Soviet Union, the United States has become the one remaining superpower. Our GDP has surpassed 10.5 trillion dollars per year, dwarfing all other countries. Our annual military budget roughly equals all other countries in the world combined. We clearly have more power and influence than any nation in history. However, while this is probably good for us, is it good for the rest of the world? Having this much power creates a lot of responsibility. Is the world better off with us as the sole superpower or would the world be better off with multiple world powers such as was the case during the Cold War, when the U.S. and Soviet Union shared superpower status?<<

@Imperial

I admit defeat smile. The U.S. is a super power, and no other power has its same characteristics or sphere of influence.

FYI i just say things to push peoples buttons tongue...But if you are going to post properly, unlike most, then i will admit that you have a very valid point.

Re: American Empire

As of today perhaps SkoE - But the next couple of years things can change.

But they also can't - we do not have the ability of foresight, we don't know if the U.S. Will fall, stay the same or Rise to Global unification, who's to know what the other nations have to hold, perhaps the Earth will be gone in a few years...

All we know is what is today, and today the power Gap between the U.S. and other nations is unrivaled.

It will be intresting to see how the next couple of years play out.

lmperial: "Maybe you shouldn't speak about things you don't know about.

I spent 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and just recently discharged Honorably, and i'm an Iraq Vet.

Maybe you should kill yourself, because with your failed ability to assume, you sure as hell are gonna get yourself killed anyways."

I know there is no way of vetting service records here, and most people just kind of take for granted, but if I have truly spoken out of line then I apologize. On the other hand, it is in the opinion of this ex-Army Weekend Warrior POG, certain attitudes are more telling than others, and are clearly delineated even in text. But in the slightest probability my compass has lost its magnetic bearings, I will agree to disagree, and leave it at that.
