Topic: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

Among the findings:

MSNBC stood out for having less negative coverage of Obama than the press generally (14% of stories vs. 29% in the press overall) and for having more negative stories about McCain (73% of its coverage vs. 57% in the press overall).

On Fox News, in contrast, coverage of Obama was more negative than the norm (40% of stories vs. 29% overall) and less positive (25% of stories vs. 36% generally). For McCain, the news channel was somewhat more positive (22% vs. 14% in the press overall) and substantially less negative (40% vs. 57% in the press overall). Yet even here, his negative stories outweighed positive ones by almost 2 to 1.

CNN fell distinctly in the middle of the three cable channels when it came to tone. In general, the tone of its coverage was closer than any other cable news channel to the press overall, though also somewhat more negative than the media overall.

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

stewart is one of the worst professional comedians imo. he says "come on" way too much. Colbert is way better.

LMFFFFFFFFFFFAAAAOOOOO

colbert is an ass tongue to a lot of the people on his show, but that's part of the funny i guess, i'd still say stewart is better

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

well, yeah, colbert is an ass, but thats because he's trying to look conservative, so he has to be an ass or else it wouldnt be a believable performance. its not his fault some of his guests dont understand the premise of the show and make themselves look stupid.

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

A comedian is Chris Rock, or others that do their OWN Material.

Stewert can read a teleprompter....... thats all.
He is a dope w/o his writers.

Wake up people......at least know what you are talking about.

"He" is funny.....yea....sure.

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

yeh.. he's the next larry the cable guy tongue
and the next member for the blue collar comdey show

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

No no.

he can be compared to Letterman or Conan O'Brien accept he is on a ZERO channel and they are on a network.

LENO....was a very successful stand up BEFORE he got the tonight show gig.
Johny loved stand ups, and he respected Leno...thats why Leno got the job......and not Letterman.

BTW..... I'm no comedian..... but I do work for a living.

Thats why you leftists hate us "Blue Collar" "Larry the cable guy" or "Joe the Plumber" types.....
...we dont need your stinkin socialist programs.

Leads to a point.

Why is Joe Biden the guy from working roots from Scranton PA,
and Palin is a hick, trailer trash from Walisa ??

Do we have a race ?

LMFAAOOOOO
BW, this is exactly what have built to the steretypes of people you mention, i'm not guna say i agree with them, but i can see where they're coming from
you took a joke and turned into a bitter hate fest

calm down... you might hate me, you might hate obama
but i don't hate you...:P i'm not interested in making hate comments, and devaluing the other person so I feel good about myself

and i gotta be honest, the working class roots thing is ALL BULLSHIT coming from EITHER SIDE
ALL BULLSHIT
i don't give a shit if you're a worker like me, i would rather you not be, because i want you to be smarter and wiser than me, oterwise why would i not run for office myself?

and yeah leno's great BW, he's funny, but stewart is definately better than letterman and conan, definately
i guess you could compare stewart's standup with chris rock, i'll bet it's no match against chris rock, but haven't heard his standup yet
russell peters is up there too big_smile

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

I read an article about that the other day. A lot of those positive and negative reports come from stories like:

McCain is trailing by 4 points in the polls.

That would count as a negative story for McCain. Add to that all the coverage on the news because of those in the McCain camp criticizing other people in the McCain camp (e.g. Palin) and the fact that Palin really did get a lot of deserved negative press (and McCain because of his mistake in choosing her)...and well, the numbers aren't really as bad as they're listed there.

The fact that Fox doesn't have a large difference between the two may be indicative of a bias. McCain should have received more negative press and Obama, more positive press.

This isn't some kind of socialist club. There's no redistribution of positive media coverage. If the polls aren't in your favour, there's infighting in your organization, and you made a huge mistake choosing your running mate, you're going to get more negative coverage than the guy who has multiple stories every day about him leading in the polls and who is currently running the better campaign. tongue

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

Whatever Theo.

1. You have not proven that the coverage on the status of the race is considered in the study.
2. It is not fair if one candidate is bashed and another gets a free ride most of the time. I don't care if you call it deserved, it isn't fair coverage.
3. Can I call you?

If you link click in the article, you'll find they include polls:

"Among the findings:

    * Coverage of Obama began in the negative after the conventions, but the tone switched with the changing direction of the polls. The most positive stories about him were those that were most political

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

The media is fully biaised, and overwhelmingly backing democrats.

But this is simply because journalists tend to be educated people with a bigger worldview and experience than average Joes (aaah, spewing my elitness!).

Frankly, it's like comparing negative ads from McCain or Obama. On one part, constant association with Bush policies, out of touch, etc. From the republicans? Terrorist associations, dubious past, PLO influence, can't be trusted, not ready to lead and so on. I mean, like Stewart would say: come on!

Obviously, I don't think it was done McCain's way, and I trust him way more than his campaing. But when you realize your electorate is mainly uneducated scared americans "patriots" "clinging to guns and religion", you play that card and go all "joe the plumber". After that, don't complain that people with a functionning brain back the other camp.

Fox News makes money on its sensationalist depiction of the US, car chases, horrid crimes, pedophiles and so on. To them, more than politic bias, McCain directly connects with what they need in order to flourish. They need McCain just as Hamas needs McCain.

I mean it does not excuse the scandalous bias (in the way the liberal media just seem to "skip" themes they don't like), but when McCain goes populist, he can't expect educated people to like it.
Plus it's clearly part of a McCain's camp strategy to sever themselves from the "elite" and appear like brand new mavericks going against impossible odds and washington (incl. Bush).

Complain after that? Nah. Can't have it both ways.

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

ever heard of free press or free market? the media produces what the viewers demand. obviously the people demand to see good news about Obama and bad news about McCain. so, don't blame the media, blame the viewers!

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

the media tells the viewers what they want to see.

Re: The Media score card, post Convention of the Presidential Race.

I've heard that before firewing and its bogus, because news is never the top rated program, and the news dept doesn't care

and lemme point out again that for 220 years an American could go out and buy ads telling you why to vote for their guy, often more persuasively than the idiot himself

but that's illegal now.  Thanks to McCain. Think he regrets it?
