Topic: Capricorn Round 2 Discussion

So in order to make preparations for the next round, I'd like to hear some of what you guys think as the round progresses and such. I have a few questions and I'd like to hear your opinions.


1. How do you feel about the fam sizes this round? Did the increase of 13 from 12 have a positive, negative or no effect on  you?

2. What do you think about the distance between the families? Do you feel you had a better or lesser chance to grow properly? Do you feel that you have a better or lesser chance at choosing targets?

3. What do you think about MW/Andro merging thus far? Do you think that it increases competition or lowers it? Do you feel that you have a higher or lower chance at getting into stronger familes than in andromeda and milky way?

4. What do you think about the Market being disabled for 48 hours? Do you think it enhanced or minimalized the importance of getting a good production on the first day? Do you think it helped you or hindered you from growing?

5. The round length. Do you think it should be extended an extra 2-4 weeks or remain at 8 weeks? Do you think that you still have a good shot at getting into the top 5 or is the round simply too short to make a comeback?

6. The starting resources. Should they be increased, lowered or is it just fine?

7. Do you think that the map is too big, too small or just right?

8. What kind of changes would you like added for next round? Things that will improve gameplay and still keep it balanced at the same time without providing an extra advantage over anyone.

9. The mod team would like to enter this game in the gotm (game of the month) competition next month. Will you help as long as changes continue?

only thing i don;t like is the score system it is not working for the start because ppol deleted and than your score will drop its hard to get into top 5 with score if you had a bad start but coming back good you can be 1 in infra but still 15th in score..

rest i pretty much like rounds are long enough there is more competition there should be less deletion and all fams full tongue

2) we had nice spot , still no advantage though. spots are good. distances are good.

3) mmm now we have all the big egos in the same fams and alliance (41 AND 31!)

4) very well done. It obliged fams to start as a fam to get good growth first days

5) extended prolly for good fams. Raped fams won't want it to last longer

1. The increase was ok, I dident think it was needed, but for some reason the mods were insisting on going to 15 or so. I talked some sense into nolio

2.  distances from familys are fine, We fought the #1 fam 5th day of round, we had 2 top 8 fams skimish us around 10th day into round and we got into a war with a top 10 fam right afterwards. Its been 1 non stop war for us and this isent including all the top 17 fams near us. If we were any closer we would of had to make alot of naps before round started or just everyone suicide on us and we suicide on them.

3. Dont know, I left and dont know how the 2 gals were before the merger, but with so few people around atm I think it was the best thing. I always promoted the closers of tri/ and old pw yrs ago and believe the mods did the right thing here. I like more fams/players in a gal then having everyone spread out in differant gals for no competetion.

4. I liked the market being down the 1st 48hrs. I thought it promoted fam unity and organization. Unfortunatly for my fam half the people were inactive the 1st 4 days, so it hurt us alot, but thats fine. I thought it was good overall

5. Dont increase the round length plz, Ill go insane again if u do. 8 weeks is enough time to do everthing that needs to be done and if u dident do it within that time frame then u sat back and infra whored or just dident log on Plus anytime there is added gc/resources at the start, it speeds the game up alot more. This round things were rolling alot sooner then ever before

6. I thought the increased starting gc/resources were great, it leveled the playing field from the top to the bottom fams alot more. It also allowed the round to get going much faster and things happening sooner which means 8 weeks suddenly feels like 10+. Atm the top fam is double nw of the 17th rajnked fam and less then a week ago it was the 32nd ranked fam they were doubled. Thats awsome, I remember the days when m00lar was double nw of the 2nd ranked fam after 10 days in andro or in mw the 6th ranked fam after 10 days. Alot more fams are more equal right from the get go.

7. atm id have to say the map is just right, We got tons of fams attacking us and evan fams 18 ticks away trying to claim systems 3 ticks from our hs. If it were any smaller with this amount of fams and some fams will start off with 8 naps and others will just be in 1 huge war+ more planets seems to = more fun/chances for small fams

8. Without a reshuffle Id like to see the systems ranging from 8-22 in size, id also like to see lq's increase 1 gc per building or 500 pop. pop banking has gone down the tubes and its time to try something with them. U talk among yourselves, but this might be a start of somethign to try? I also still like hydrops old idea with the imperial guard for bankers. They got awsome defense, but sucky offense and the cost of them in r race is maybe 15-20 race points? revelons/pax get them automatically.

Nolio I mentioned after this round started to consider not having the score system start till 48hrs into the round.

Last round i noticed the problem with the score system when we were hanging out at 18th nw, 21st in size and never getting past 31st in score due to people comming and going non stop. It does need adjusting, but the other thing is early on the nw/sizes of fams change dramatically and score is off. We hit and brought 45 down from #1 to 12th like the 6th day of the round. At the time they were 1st in score and us 2nd, it took us like 4 more days to finally pass them in score when they were 12th and us 1st -2nd in nw at the time.

adjust it to where size matters more then nw as time goes on in round+ atleast dont start it till 48hrs into the round and consider waiting till 7 days.

to be honest l like everything about the round except one thing

please allow fams like 1441 to be able to kick out at least 1 member b4 SOR so when u get someone like TYMO you can get rid of him b4 round starts smile

2) having fams this close is good. growing properly now needs good diplo. and targets are everywhere smile

3) i think it was a good idea

4) it [squaredanced] the lowest fams for sure, and it made cooperation necassary.. i liked it

5) the round is short, but thats ok.. it has its advantages, less ppl would del to get into another fam, they just fnish their round smile

1. Not much difference. But i surely dont want 20 people in a family.

2. Distance is fine. Not very fair if lots of familys are at same location.

3. Since Player total overall is dropping, merging galaxys is better for competition then having 2 smaller ones.

4. I dont like the marked being disabled at all! It might encourage teamwork, but what about players who want to play alone and SS as an attacker? Its a part of the game to and those people get screwed over. Also new players joining in and who are not ready to be in a team yet basicly cant play alone with an attacker race.
If you want to keep people from leaving I think that needs to be changed again.

5. No extra time. Rounds are long enough as they are.

8. Marked back to normal. I would like some possibility to do something against this: if small attackers enter your core(to small to be targeted) that you can kick them out. maybe something like people can be attacked in the first 24 hours when they enter a system no matter how big they are in NW. Cause it really sucks to have people in big familys give away planets, rejoin as camaar and then enter systems of the opposing family in order to screw them over. Their is basilcly no way of fighting that strat if its executed properly.

we all have a better chance of getting in to  much stronger fams. but players are still mass deleting at the start and we still have the dying farm fams at the bottom 10 or so,like always.notting new tongue

No real effect - I always liked bigger families though when they could be full - so it's tight. tongue

Distance is good - even spread, sneak around, not against it tongue

50/50 on this one - a little more fun to force family balance, but takes out some of the fun guesswork early on as to what will be the most effective building.

2 week extension at most - definitely not 4.

lowered by 50% - i like the quicker starts, but with that much, there was no strategy, no tough decisions, nothing fancy - just full build and go - so quick start - good, ridiculously easy start - bad

I still want to see all families made in a ring in the center of the map with all systems spread around them.  No attacks/ops for 48-72 hours.  Fight and plan for your core wink

- Quite nice actually.  Easily manageable.  I do however, miss the days when you used to get to play with 8 of your friends, while still meeting new people.

- Grow easily, yes.  Allows you to get good infrastructure in place.  However, I dont' like the uniformity.  It's too evenly spread out, no variability, and no creative ways to deal with the map.  'Terrain' always adds a new dimension to gameplay imo, and I think it'd be nice to have that back.


3. What do you think about MW/Andro merging thus far? Do you think that it increases competition or lowers it? Do you feel that you have a higher or lower chance at getting into stronger familes than in andromeda and milky way?
- Brilliant idea.  Gotta get the players to play together imo.

- Another brilliant idea.  Previously it was whoever got the end bids would have a decent start.  Ofcourse this doesnt matter in the long run, but it definitely sets the active ppl in the right direction easier.  Added a new dimension to the 'start strat' and I loved it.
- However, those individual players going SS - I feel they might be effected a bit.

- As a pop banker, a couple extra weeks would be nice tongue  As a fam point of view, I think 2 months is okay except for the fact that you probably go through the whole round without really getting to see all the top families ..or at least the families in your bracket.

- Just fine!  Loved the extra resources.  Speeds up the round by a considerable amount.  Planets are already so OB etc etc.

- Not sure, not attacking.  Looks big, but there are a lot of families too, so its okay.  Still don't really like the equal spacing between the fams though.  Would be nice to have those areas of interest again where people all target - Does provide more fronts to conduct battle!

- Again, going back to the map - I'd like to see a bit of variability.  But thats just a personal preference.

Just try to add a line in the score formula making deletes not effect the score.

What does that have to do with anything I wrote?

If there is a bug in marked it needs to be fixed no matter if marked is up or not early.

The only thing I can think about is that you read what I wrote wrong about the 24 hours someone is in a system. This has nothing to do with start of round. Its about game balance and a strat that has been abused for a long time. Oh PM(Protection Mode) helps this strat to. PM is still stupid, no matter what and should be changed or get rid of.

1. I believe it made no real difference. we were first in size, nw, and score with only 12 people until we got in that fight with 1431. it helped those with 13 people because they got the score added from what that 13th player did.

2. I believe the distance is okay. sector 3 seemed to have a lot more open space than sector's 1 and 2 but that is just because of the families that are in those sectors. Wars happen much sooner as we found out to our disadvantage but it makes the game more fun. There was still room to grow you just have to keep defense in mind by the 3rd or 4th day.

3. I was always an andro man since they got rid of orion but i do believe combining the two has made this round much more competitive. you are getting some of the best players and some who think they are the best and throwing them in the same galaxy and families. it allows for much for conflict smile

4. I really liked that the market was disabled for the first 48 hours. i was lucky enough to have a very active family so it helped us out. it requires families to work together right off the bat and really shows you which families are better settled and organized.

5. I liked it when the rounds were at least 3 months long. Then you had the really big wars over territory with the top families. with the amount of players we have in capri now i think we should extend the round length another 4 weeks.

6. The starting resources worked out very well with what they were.

7. It was a good size but i wouldn't mind it slightly larger.

8. I would like to see a map based on an actual galaxy and not just randomized. i know this is probably asking too much but i think it would be really fun. 

9. Yes. I voted for the game back when we used to win them and i will vote for it again. is stefan still going to give everyone a 10 day VIP if we win?

ANSWER: I think the size is of 13 is perfect, 12, eh, probably not good.

ANSWER: The distance is just perfect. Better chance to grow properly. And better chances at choosing targets

ANSWER: Awesome! I met a lot of interesting players and I think merging is great idea! However, I think we should keep MW and Andro open, but only after 2 weeks into the round, small fams have chance to migrate to other galaxy in hope for chance to play better but not sure if everyone agrees with this one...maybe we can get creative on what to do with them.

ANSWER: I like this way. Keep that way. Make it interesting in how fams grow without scheming profits via markets. Same thing with no attack 48 hrs, I remember old rounds, I'm sick of other fams taking advantage by attacking too early, causing expo wars to slow fams down, losing chance to compete fairly.

ANSWER: I like longer round, but i think longer round should be up to BIG GALAXY, like bigger than capricorn, endless exploring till EOR. But regular galaxies should have proper time length like what we have right now in Capri.

ANSWER: I love big map. More spread and more challenges in fighting such as tug-o-war, plus give small fams good chance to grow as well after being raped or farmed then napped.

ANSWER: BRING BACK TRI-ALLIANCE!!!!!!!!!

ANSWER: Yes, back then, we used to do that, it had helped increase new players base, but I worry about increase in multi-ing and bogus randoms. We might need to do something about that before entering competition so that way new players wont abuse it again and again, making vets get tired and lose interest in IC.
