Just like when he appeared out of thin air at the start of his announcement, the hollogram of arsbury disappeared again and a hush fell across the City Square for a moment. Then the expected rush of chatter swept through the shocked crowd.

"Oh my god, I can't believe she's dead!"
"Hacked control cards....??"
"Wtf?! Who killed her?"
"I've just bought a PRP bot, should I take it back?"
"Are my children safe to go to school tomorrow? Their teacher is a humanoid."

The Almighty President arsbury's speech did the exact opposite of what he had intended. Rather than calm people down, he seemed to cause a panic. But what did he really expect? After telling people that the lead scientist in the Population Replacement Programme had been murdered and it was found that the latest batch of 10 million PRP humanoids released days earlier could have some faulty control cards... what did he really think the reaction was going to be?

Still, it could be worse. He had left out some minor details which would cause real hysteria if the public found out. They had come so far since the Great Electric Storm and he wasn't about to undo all the hard work in making Earth 2.0 great again by revealing that the control cards were not only faulty, but they had been hacked. Who knows what sort of damage a humanoid could do if it's control system lay in the wrong hands....

In the City Square, the crowd were still buzzing. A woman looked around and thought that to a bystander, they all looked like a normal group of people. That's down to the good work of Professor Jane Malone and her team. It was flawless - the humanoids could interact with people and no one would know the difference. But that is also what scared the woman. The humanoids could look, talk and think like a human as well as being stronger, more agile and last longer.

She thought back at the words the Almighty President arsbury said to close his speech and thought they were a strange choice:

"My people, do not worry about what I have said today - it is all under control. My office shall issue an update statement in the coming days. Now, go back to your homes for the night is coming."

She looked up and saw the sun slowly beginning to set. As if by magic, the neon lights of the advertising around the City Square had turned themselves on. The square was suddenly a rush of activity as billboards were brought to life. The 3D head of KFC's colonel leaned out of his board whilst holding a box of chicken. He smiled as the woman gathered her things together and she gingerly ignored the advertisement. It was time to go home and see to her children. arsbury was right - the night is coming.
