Topic: Fortis

First the gov comes to "save the day", then they sell us out at low price. Incredible.

This thread is about the biggest Belgian bank, but I posted it in English anyway in case anyone's interested.

Re: Fortis

The photograph of the frog at the top is our prime minister. Pity us.

Re: Fortis

haha suckers wink

this deal actually restored some faith in my (dutch) government. They do know how to do business ^^. Belgians are stuck with the problems while the dutch get the least troubled parts for a good price.

In all fairness though, it's the dutch part that's the least troubled so why wouldn't we get the better end of the deal?

The belgians can use the cash to clean up their own mess...

Re: Fortis

ah its same with bankers everywhere. many of them simply appear to be [The fmods owned me before I even knew it!]..
here in germany we just have one bank saying they will go bankrupt if they dont get 36 billion

Re: Fortis

"The fmods owned me before I even knew it!"
LOL! Its against my principles but I've got to admit they got some sense of humor.

"and the biggest shit is that the idiots who are responsible can not even be held responsible for it.. has to be changed.."
I agree with that Schniepel. It has been a long time since we agree.

@vis:
"haha suckers"
whats up?

Anyway, you need both sides of the story. Politicians just need to explain. Troubles were in both countries, believe me. To my modest opinion however, we both did a moderately good deal. Or at least, it wasn't the worst option. They couldn't get much cash for it anywhere else so Bos could have played it even harder as he did now. I hope they don't give it away for a goat now.

Anyway, I was talking about the sell-out to the french company mainly. Its a cheap buy-out I simply can't understand.

Re: Fortis

Bos was doing Machivellian politics. He said that Fortis was ruined due to book-keeping flaws before he bought the Dutch part up and said he was mistaken afterwards thus being able to buy Fortis at a very low price. He just couldn't be brought to care about the rest (e.g. Belgium). I just hope some angry mob sells their stock, gets over to Holland and lynches him...

Re: Fortis

i appreciate the posting of a site in english, so i can get alittle idea of whats going on.

Re: Fortis

The  reason they need money is because they asked for money in the first place. Or the gouverment started an investigation. I'm not sure how it started but suddenly people lost confidence and were worried shit might go south like the american banks. So.... you get the picture

Not many people know this, but I own the first radio in Springfield. Not much on the air then, just Edison reciting the alphabet over and over. "A" he'd say; then "B." "C" would usually follow...

This is one of those rare incidents where the Dutch nation does not criticize, but rather applauds Wouter Bos his actions. We just got a bank and a half for cheap! It seems like everyone on the bargaining table had forgotten that Bos, even though a socialist, is a Dutchman first and foremost.. wink

It probably became clear to everyone that fortis was a sinking ship regardless of any rescue attempts (barring absurdly costly ones); the belgian government also cherry picked the remaining healthy fortis activities in their subsequent rescue plan; last I heard was that the fortis holding now had a couple billion
