Re: Linux

Ubuntu doesn't have a compiler though!

Re: Linux

thx people, I feel less of a geek now.:p

anyway, is it really true there are no viruses for linux? I can hardly believe that given the spread and use of it.

Re: Linux

Well, I daresay there are a few trojans or things floating around, but I've not come across any viruses for Linux so far.  As far as I can see, that is for a few reasons, reasons I can't be arsed to list, but essentially Windows makes itself a target for hackers.  The other reason is because Linux is open source, anyone with knowledge of programming can look at the source code, find flaws and security flaws and inform the developers.

Re: Linux

No C compiler that compiles sources adapted to that particular distro. Although it's not really a problem for a regular user, it's quite a problem for developpers. wink

They are out there, but they are rare wink Windows is mainly a target cause it represents + 90% of the installed OSes. If you'd look for BeOS virusses, it's even less...

Re: Linux

apt-get install gcc

Sure it does. It's just very annoying that it doesn't come with the distro (just like kernel headers etc).

Re: Linux

well, considering 100% of pc's come with windows (not counting macs, I never said anything about mac's so stop thinking about mac's now.) So, the chances of hacking a pc with windows is about 99.7893242% which is really f-ing good. So the people who actually have the computer knowledge of actually using linux is quite small. therefore if you want to do more damage with your hacking, you're better off hacking window, than linux

Re: Linux

I have a couple old computers around the pentium-pentium2 age. What linux-OS would be the best to install and still have a great performance?

If you want some features but still has speed, DSL-N, I've heard puppy is good but do to a known bug it wouldn't install on my laptop. Those probably aren't meant for HD installs anyways.

Re: Linux
